Applied Economics BSBA specialization

Applied economics uses observed data, logical reasoning and economic theory to make well-informed decisions. The discipline is relevant to nearly any profession in the public and private sectors.

The BGSU applied economics specialization offers Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) students an opportunity to design a unique course of study that combines economics with a related discipline.

Common combinations include public policy, financial economics, economic forecasting, market forecasting, global studies or politics and political economy.

Applying economic theory to reality has value in predicting future behavior and understanding past results in markets of every kind imaginable.

Valued in both business, government and non-profit arenas, the analytical, business and communications skills learned by BSBA students specializing in applied economics allow them to enter various fields including banking, insurance, entry-level management and many other areas.  

Students are also well prepared for MBA programs or law school.

As well as the core business courses required for the BSBA major, students can select an area of study to combine with economics.  

Choose from recommended course combinations in public policy, financial economics, economic forecasting, market forecasting, global studies or politics and political economy.  

Other advised combinations are available for people with specific career destinations in mind.
