A beautiful and heartbreaking piece, Lullaby is, as the composer noted in the program notes, “the central movement of my piano suite entitled Before Sleep and Dreams written in 1987-1990. The suite is reminiscent of the spirit of works such as Schumann’s Kinderszenen or Debussy’s Children’s Corner, and contains references to the Romantic and Impressionistic keyboard styles of Debussy and Chopin.”

This is the third collaboration between Solungga Liu and Michael Laurello, Manager of Recording Services and Technical Engineer for the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, with whom she has found a true musical-visual kinship. It is a collaboration that will continue to come to fruition well into the future.
