Woodwinds

At BGSU, nearly one hundred outstanding woodwind students are preparing for a successful career path in music. Representing a variety of international countries and American states, these musicians collaborate with master teachers in refining and enhancing their skills. The applied studios for each discipline offer diverse individual instruction, professional masterclasses, guest artist appearances and frequent departmental recitals. Woodwind students also actively perform in various chamber groups and large ensembles.
The woodwind faculty includes Dr. Nermis Mieses (oboe), Dr. Susan Nelson (bassoon), Dr. John Sampen (saxophone), Dr. Terri Sanchez (flute), and Mr. Kevin Schempf (clarinet). All are celebrated performers and distinguished teachers who bring a wealth of experience and guidance to both graduate and undergraduate students.
