CMA Students take top spots in Young Artist Competition

Congratulations to our College of Musical Arts students that participated in the Lima Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition!

The Friends of the Symphony and the Lima Symphony Orchestra hosted the 57th annual “Young Artists Competition” for college musicians. This year’s event was held in Yoder Recital Hall on the campus of Bluffton University. The competition featured piano, woodwind and brass performers. Cash awards were presented to eight finalists after a finalist concert held that evening. This year's eight finalists were:

  1st Place Junior Woodwinds, flute ($600): Samantha Tartamella, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH

  2nd Place Junior Woodwinds, flute ($400): Francesca Leo, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH

  1st Place Junior Piano, ($600): Qingcheng Zeng, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH

  2nd Place Junior Piano, ($400): Xi Li, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH

  1st Place Senior Woodwinds, Alto Sax ($1,000): Connor Mikula, University of Michigan

  2nd Place Senior Woodwinds, Sax ($700): Kendra Heslip, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH

  1st Place Senior Piano, ($1,000): Yaoyue Huang, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music

  2nd Place Senior Piano, ($700): Elizabeth Yao, Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music, Bloomington, IN

     In addition to cash prizes division finalists may be invited to appear as a guest soloist with the Lima Symphony at a performance next season. The 58th Young Artists Competition will feature strings and voice.
