Educational Leadership

The BGSU graduate educational leadership program equips experienced educators with the skills and credentials needed to qualify for professional administrator licensure exams and advance into leadership roles.

Our online Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) programs can be completed in as few as four semesters, including summers, and fulfill requirements for principal licensure through the Ohio Department of Education. BGSU also offers two graduate certificate programs that fulfill coursework requirements for principal or superintendent licensure for those who already have an advanced degree.

All of our graduate educational leadership programs offer flexible, 100% online classes. Most courses are asynchronous. You can access them whenever and wherever it’s convenient.

Curriculum

The goal of the educational leadership master’s program is to give you the tools to lead where you are – whether you’re a teacher or an administrator – and to always lead so that students learn.

Ed.S. program

In addition to required coursework, you must complete two administrative internship experiences:

  • A building-level internship – A three-semester hour, hands-on experience to provide a first-hand experience of an entire school year from the perspective of a building principal
  • A district-level internship – A three-semester hour, hands-on experience to provide a first-hand experience of a central office from the perspective of a central office administrator

M.Ed. program

One of the essential experiences of the M.Ed. program in educational leadership is the successful completion of the leadership practicum and internship. This program is spread over three semesters to give you a first-hand experience of an entire school year from the perspective of a building principal.

The M.Ed. offers two options for graduating:

  • A 30-hour program culminating with a thesis
  • A 33-hour program culminating with a comprehensive examination
