- University/conservatory staff collaborative pianist – Accompany recitals, coach applied lessons and partner with faculty and students in a university music department.
- Freelance collaborative artist – Build a freelance portfolio working with opera companies, chamber music series, dance companies, university guest recitals and studio recordings. You can diversify income through coaching, private lessons and freelance gigs.
- Private studio and pedagogy specialist – Establish a private studio focused on advanced pianists and singers. Offer collaborative piano coaching, accompaniment opportunities and interdisciplinary work (voice + piano, chamber groups).
- Music educator/academic track – Pursue further credentials (e.g. DMA) that allow you to secure a faculty position at a university.

Applying and funding
Applicants to the Master of Music in collaborative piano program must complete an audition as part of the admission process. You may choose to upload a recorded audition with your application or participate in a live audition, offered in person or virtually.
Applicants are encouraged to schedule early and confirm specific requirements with the College of Musical Arts. See current requirements and audition dates.
If you are applying for a graduate assistantship, a live interview (either in person or virtual) is required. Studio assistantships, such as piano accompanying positions, may be awarded based on a recorded audition.
The master’s program in collaborative piano is a program in the College of Musical Arts.
