Interdisciplinary Studies
The Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in interdisciplinary studies at BGSU are designed for graduate students whose goals don’t fit neatly into a single field. This flexible degree is ideal if you want to:
- Combine coursework from different disciplines to match your career interests
- Complete a graduate degree you’ve already started
- Pursue a specialized path not offered in a traditional program
With access to professional, creative and research-based courses across the university, you can design a program as unique as your ambitions.

Graduates work in diverse industries and leverage their cross-disciplinary expertise to solve complex challenges, lead innovative projects and contribute to research.
Curriculum
The program is highly flexible. You'll work closely with an advisor and faculty from each discipline represented in your plan of study. Students integrate coursework from at least two graduate programs.
- Credit hours: Minimum of 30
- Culminating experience: Thesis or project, designed with your faculty advisory committee

The most recent reaffirmation of accreditation was received in 2022-2023, with our next reaffirmation of accreditation scheduled for 2032-2033.
