Minor

Dance

Success in any field requires more than just intellect. It demands presence, awareness and creativity. That’s why dance – as a full-body art form – offers powerful interdisciplinary value for so many other areas of study.

A dance minor at Bowling Green State University complements many majors with skills that transcend the studio:

  • Occupational therapy and psychology majors deepen their understanding of nonverbal communication, emotional expression and therapeutic movement.
  • Pre-med students build spatial awareness and precision – essential for healthcare practice.
  • Education majors learn to engage diverse learners through movement while better understanding how physical expression can unlock academic potential in ways traditional methods cannot.

Dance can build bridges across linguistic and cultural barriers. Through dance training and study, students gain critical cognitive skills – pattern recognition, spatial reasoning and creative problem-solving – while also building peak physical strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health. It’s well-established that those who study dance demonstrate enhanced memory, focus, social skills and emotional intelligence.

The collaborative nature of ensemble work translates directly to team management, which can serve professionals well in fields like event planning, corporate training and human resources.

Dance minors often major in fields like physical therapy, sports medicine, occupational therapy and theatre. Dance offers them unique insight into human movement and patient care. The discipline and grace under pressure developed through performance experience proves invaluable in high-stress medical environments.
