Rhythm Section Auditions (For all ensembles)

• Who: All drummers, bassists, pianists, and keyboardists

• Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

• Location: Kelly Hall

Tuesday, August 25

Lab Band Horn Auditions

• Location: Kelly Hall

• Schedule by Instrument: 

• 1:30 PM: Saxophones

• 2:00 PM: Trumpets

• 2:30 PM: Trombones

Chamber Jazz Ensemble Auditions

• Time: 6:00 PM – 7:12 PM

• Location: Room 2015

AUDITION INFORMATION &REQUIREMENTS

Sign-Up Sheets: Posted on the bulletin board next to Room 2015. 

Rhythm Section 

(Drummers, Bassists, Guitarists, and Pianists) 

• Format: You will be placed in a rhythm section.

• Requirements: Be prepared to read a chart and/or play a tune from the BGSU tune list. 

 Lab Band Horns 

1. Prepared Piece 

• Song: "Ornithology" (Play the head; improvisation is optional).

• Materials: Lead sheets (Bb, Eb, Concert Treble, and Bass Clef) are available in the audition folder. 

2. Range & Chromatic Scales

• Saxophones: Full chromatic scale, written Bb to F 

• Trumpets: Two-octave chromatic scale, starting on written C

• Trombones: Two-octave chromatic scale, starting on F below the staff. 

Chamber Jazz Horns 

• Requirements: Play the melody and improvise on a tune from the BGSU tune list. 

• Note: Accompaniment will be provided.
