BGSU Men's Chorus 50th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, April 9, 2022

BGSU Men’s Chorus Alums Invited to Participate in the Alumni Chorus, Co-Conducted by:

Prof. Richard Mathey (BGSU MC conductor from 1971-2000)

Dr. Benjamin Ayling

Conductor Update:

Dr. Skoog has recently undergone some medical procedures that prevent him from travelling for the next several weeks.  He is doing well and anticipates a full recovery.  However, he will not be able to be with us on April 9.  We wish Dr. Skoog a speedy recovery and look forward to having him with us again on campus for future alumni events.

In light of this situation, Prof. Mathey has invited Dr. Benjamin Ayling to assist with this year’s alumni chorus.  Dr. Ayling is the former (retired) Director of Choral Activities at Ohio Northern University and also the bass for the International Gold Medalist barbershop quartet, The Ritz.  Dr. Ayling sang with the BGSU Men’s Chorus as both an undergraduate and a masters student and served as Interim Conductor of the chorus for a semester while Prof. Mathey was on leave. We are incredibly pleased to have him with us for this event!

Widely reputed as “America’s Finest Singing Machine,” the BGSU Men’s Chorus is an auditioned large ensemble open to all tenor and bass singers on campus. The ensemble encompasses students across all majors, representing all seven colleges at the University; over half of the members are non-music majors. Uniquely, the chorus functions as a student organization as well as a registered course offered through the College of Musical Arts, deriving from them both an atmosphere of brotherly camaraderie and exemplary musicianship.
