duotesserae

Formed in 2025, Duo Tesserae brings together New Zealand violinist Alwyn Tomas Westbrooke and Japanese pianist Michiko Saiki, two specialists in contemporary music whose collaboration began in 2018. Since then, they have worked together continuously in a variety of chamber ensembles before founding this duo. Michiko Saiki is an alumna of the Doctorate in Contemporary Music at BGSU.

Praised for their characteristic precision, clarity, and vivid sense of color, Duo Tesserae guides audiences through a landscape of striking contrasts, inviting listeners to experience the rich diversity of contemporary musical expression. They work closely with both emerging and established composers, often highlighting hitherto undiscovered voices, and creating performances that illuminate new perspectives in sound.
