Degree Programs

The Department of Media Production and Studies offers the following degree options:

To be accepted to the BA or BAC degree programs, please see the BGSU Office of Admissions where you can find information on application deadlines, admission requirements, transferring credit, costs and housing.

Major, Bachelor of Arts (37- 42 hours in the major)

  • MDIA 1030, 2600, 2620, 2630, 2640, 3550, 3600, 3660, 4600, 4890 (28-33)
  • Focus area: 3 courses at the 3000-4000 level (9). A faculty adviser must approve the focus area.
  • Earn a grade of "C" or better in all MDIA courses
  • Complete a minor in another department. A student wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary minor must have the endorsement of the faculty adviser and approval from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Major, Bachelor of Arts in Communication (37- 42 hours in the major)

  • Focus area: 3 courses at the 3000-4000 level (9)
  • Earn a grade of "C" or better in all MDIA courses
  • Complete a support field of at least 9 hours in one department other than Media Production and Studies. A student wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary support field must make an argument in writing to the faculty adviser. The support field must be declared in writing by the end of the student's junior year.

Minor, Advertising

Minor, Media Production and Studies (21 hours)

Students majoring in other degree programs can minor in telecommunications.

  • MDIA 1030, 3550 (6)
  • Two 3-credit hour courses from MDIA courses at 2000-3000 level (6)
  • Three 3-credit hour courses from MDIA courses at 3000-4000 level (9)

  • MDIA 2900 Documentary Proposal Research & Writing (3 credit hours)
  • MDIA 3000 America’s Documentary Story to 1968 (3 credit hours)
  • MDIA 3100 Documenting Human-Global Challenges after 1968 (3 credit hours)

  • Practicum: MDIA 4640 (interactive media), MDIA 4912 (audio-radio), MDIA 4913 (television-video) or MDIA 4900 Problems in Telecommunications
