School of Media and Communication Hall of Fame
Criteria and Nomination Process
Purpose
The School of Media and Communication of Fame honors alumni who graduated from the undergraduate and graduate programs within the School of Media and Communication (except for Journalism and Public Relations because they have their own Hall of Fame) and who have significantly contributed to media and communication fields through their excellence, innovation, and leadership. This recognition celebrates the diverse nature of our alumni’s accomplishments and contributions in the media and communication fields. Recipients demonstrate exceptional performance and contributions that have helped shape the media industry, elevated ethical standards, and inspired the next generation of professionals.
One award is presented at the School of Media and Communication’s annual awards ceremony, usually in April.
Eligibility
· Must be a graduate of the BGSU Media and Communication undergraduate or graduate program at Bowling Green State University or a predecessor department/program
· Nominees should have been active in their field long enough to establish that the contributions they have made to the profession are significant (Normally, a minimum of 15 -20 years of service)
· Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards, advocacy, and mentorship
· Posthumous nominations are welcome.
Nominees should meet at least three of the following five categories:
- Professional Excellence
- Achieved outstanding distinction in their chosen field (e.g., communication, media production, research, corporate communication, digital media, broadcasting, entertainment, etc.).
- Recognition may include awards, leadership positions, industry honors, or significant creative/research contributions.
- Innovation and Impact
- Pioneered new ideas, methods, technologies, or creative works that have had a measurable effect on their field or audience.
- Service and Leadership
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership in professional organizations, industry associations, or civic/community roles.
- Contribution to Society
- Used media and communication expertise to positively influence communities, advocate for important causes, or advance the public good.
- Ongoing Commitment to BGSU
Eligibility to Nominate
Nominations are open to BGSU alumni, and SMC faculty members.
Nomination Form
A standardized form must be completed for each nominee and include the following:
· Nominee’s Bowling Green State University School of Media and Communication connection(s).
· Nominee’s current and past employment.
· A detailed resume or portfolio showcasing their career achievements.
· A summary of the nominee’s contributions and impact highlighting a minimum of the three categories names above (maximum 1,000 words).
· Minimum of two letters of support from colleagues, collaborators, or organizations.
· Optional: Multimedia examples of work (e.g., articles, videos, campaigns).
· A portrait-style photograph of the nominee or an easily accessible source for such a photograph
Inductee Selection Process
- The complete nomination and seconding letters for the Hall of Fame are distributed to the selection committee.
- The committee meets to review new submissions and discuss previous nominees who have not been selected.
- The selection committee includes the School of Media and Communication faculty, the School of Media and Communication Director, and a non-voting student member.
- Those selected by the committee are notified and invited to the School of Media and Communication award ceremony. Representatives of posthumous selectees will also be invited to the reception.
Induction Ceremony
The induction ceremony will be held annually or biannually. Inductees will receive:
- A commemorative plaque or trophy.
- Recognition in the Hall of Fame’s official website, including a detailed profile of their achievements.
- Winners will commit to being a part of the School of Media and Communication speaker’s bureau and to participating in one event in the following academic year after induction (i.e., running a master class, reviewing student portfolios, etc.)
