Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador Program consists of exemplary students who represent the School of Media and Communication (SMC) and meet with prospective students throughout the academic year. As SMC student leaders, they are well positioned to talk with prospective students about our program and student life at BGSU.

Dr. Louisa Ha is the Faculty Advisor of the Student Ambassador Program. If you have any questions, please contact her at louisah@bgsu.edu.

Why BGSU: I knew from the minute I toured campus that I wanted BGSU to become my home. The community was so welcoming, and I loved seeing how easy it was to be involved. The thing I love most about BGSU is the close knit community, yet always having opportunities to meet new people.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I was the yearbook editor in high school, and knew I wanted to do something that involved writing, design or communications. When I found out about BGSU’s public relations degree, I knew I had to explore what that could mean for me professionally. I’ve been able to explore my passions as well as find internships on campus that have completely validated that decision. My favorite class is Journalism 3450, my design class!

Why BGSU: I wanted to go to BGSU because it felt the most welcoming out of all the campuses I looked into. My parents also went here and they both had a great time, which encouraged me as well. Plus, since I was undecided, it helped that we have a great program for undecided students to help them find a major they fit into.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I found out about Media Studies through doing some of my own research through the Academics page on the BGSU website. I knew I wanted to do something with online media and writing, so when I came across Media Studies, I felt it was best suited to what I wanted for my college degree and future career!

Also the chances to progress as a leader and overall human being was astronomical compared to other colleges I was thinking of attending

Why choose current major and favorite class: I decided to major in the SMC because I always said that “all problems could be solved if we understand how to communicate with one another” so that really my motivation. I want to understand how we give each other messages and how as a society we ended up this way. So far my favorite class is a class I am in now called the “dark side” it talks about human error in communication and how to fix it.

Why BGSU: My parents both went to BGSU, my dad played baseball and my mom came for education. We grew up coming here for games, so when it was my time to visit campus, I already felt like I knew the place a little bit. Right away, I could tell this was a very down to earth campus with very “real” people. I ended up getting accepted into a Leadership Academy on campus which was the deal breaker, but this place is definitely my home.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I decided to major in Public Relations. I started as a business major, but found out very quickly my niche was in writing. I changed my major and never looked back. I love how creative our field is and how collaborative the whole school is. My favorite class is JOUR 3000, Student Media Participation, because it gives students an opportunity to get involved in Falcon Media!

What I like most about BGSU is there is so much to do, tons of organizations to choose from, so many opportunities offered in the classroom, and everyone I have met is insanely friendly.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I decided to major in Media Production and Studies because when I was undecided, I went to a fair to choose your major and Media Production Studies was the one that stuck out to me the most. Soon after the fair I picked up my first Media class, loved it and have enjoyed the major even more as I have progressed. My favorite class in my major right now is my News Cast Directing class, it is very hands-on and in our amazingly advanced studio.

Why BGSU: I decided to go to BGSU because I had heard about the new building and equipment available for media production. I was rather interested in gaining technical experience in the Radio and TV area, and Bowling Green had all the facilities that I wanted to learn how to use! I am also relatively close to home, so it worked out really well! I think that the thing I like most about BGSU is the instructors. Almost every instructor I have had has been very knowledgeable, and for the most part, super understanding, and great at their instruction.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I decided to major in Media Production because I wanted to learn how to help produce things like music, podcasts, TV, or film. I think that my favorite class of my major was a class called MDIA 4912, or Audio Editing Practicum. It had one of my favorite instructors, which is always good, but the main point was that we consistently used some of the more advanced audio editing equipment to edit songs.
