Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador Program consists of exemplary students who represent the School of Media and Communication (SMC) and meet with prospective students throughout the academic year. As SMC student leaders, they are well positioned to talk with prospective students about our program and student life at BGSU.

Dr. Lisa Hanasono is the Faculty Advisor of the Student Ambassador Program. If you have any questions, please contact her at LisaKH@bgsu.edu.

Favorite thing about BGSU: I chose to come to BGSU because when I first came and visited the campus, it had a very welcoming environment. My mom also went to BGSU and loved it, which encouraged me to come. As I was undecided when I first came to school, knowing BGSU has so many different programs in different fields helped me to know that I would find what I wanted to study here.

Why choose current major and favorite class: I chose Public Relations as my major because I wanted to be able to represent a brand and company in a positive way. I love writing, so I like to write press releases and post on social media accounts. There is also some creativity allowed in the major when coming up with new ideas of how to get viewers involved in a company's social media. My favorite class so far has been JOUR2000 (Journalism and Public Relations Writing) because I have been able to learn how to write specifically for public relations, and I have learned how to get to the point in my writing.

Favorite thing about BGSU: The opportunities that BGSU provides allow me to gain experience in my field that I would have otherwise never had a chance to gain at a larger university.

Why choose current major and favorite class: Broadcasting has been a passion of mine before I even knew what it was. I would always pretend to host my own radio shows, interview fake people, and mimic what the news anchors on the evening news would do. As I aged, I began to take a serious interest in the field. So serious, that I decided to major in broadcasting as soon as freshman year of high school arrived. Now I am a broadcast journalism major and I am fulfilling my childhood dream. My favorite class would be JOUR 2000. Professor Crighton does a fantastic job of teaching the basics to journalism and showing how they are used by having students write their own articles and news scripts.

I decided to try out media production because it still fuels creativity, and I wanted to learn more about video and audio production/editing. I am happy with my choice to switch majors. My favorite course has been MDIA1995 (Post Production), because it was one of the first courses for me in my new major. Major: Public Relations
Minor
: Communication
Student Organization(s):
Falcon Communications (Account Associate); BG News (Reporter); News 90 (Reporter); PRSSA (Treasurer)
Internship(s) and Professional Experience:
 Media Director for the Bridge Fellowship Church; Communication Director for Easy Event Planning; Intern at the Toledo Business Journal
Hometown:
Perrysburg, Ohio

Favorite thing about BGSU: What I love best about being a BGSU student is how welcoming the other students are. When I started as a non-traditional student, I worried that I wouldn't fit in but the students I have encountered have been welcoming and inclusive.

Why choose current major and favorite class: Prof. Julie Hagenbuch had been watching me my first year as a Communication major. I had joined PRSSA and was writing for her in her JOUR2000 class as part of my minor. She kept me after class one day to tell me she really believed I needed to be a public relations major because she saw my potential. While I was already leaning that way, her encouragement and support has been an amazing help to me over the course of my education. I feel that the professors here are looking to do more than a 9-5, leave the job at work kind of job. I have found so much support from them across the board. My favorite has to have been JOUR2500 (Reporting for Journalism and Public Relations) with Julie Hagenbuch. I loved learning the best ways to work in journalism and how to write better stories.
