Lauren Andrews, a Sylvania, OH native, found her place at the BGSU Recreation Center during her sophomore year. Lauren attended Group Fitness classes her whole freshman year and fell in love with the environment. She wanted to know how to teach fitness classes and that is how an ACE Group Fitness Instructor workshop came about. She got certified to teach Group Fitness classes the summer going into her sophomore year. It was during the fall of her sophomore year that the chance arose to interview for the Student Supervisor of Fitness position. Lauren was looking for ways to expand her leadership skills and opportunities on campus so she decided to interview for the position. Lauren received the position and has been in it ever since.

I want to encourage people to live a life where their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health are all at a place that they feel good about. Lauren started as a freshman who just wanted to stay active and be involved on campus, but in reality she found her passion in encouraging healthy living and what she wants to pursue in life. “I now know that I want to help people live lives that they love and encourage them to take care of their bodies in a holistic sense,” says Andrews. “I want to encourage people to live a life where their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health are all at a place that they feel good about.”

I could not be more thankful for the opportunities that Recreation and Wellness has given me and I will take them with me when I go into my future professional jobs. With having the opportunity to be in a position for so many years, Andrews has had the opportunity to expand her leadership skills, her ability to deal with confrontation and conflict, her professionalism, her desire to help people, her ability to handle tough situations and her organizational skills. Andrews says, “I could not be more thankful for the opportunities that Recreation and Wellness has given me and I will take them with me when I go into my future professional jobs.” Andrews is also extremely grateful for the opportunities that she has had to meet the wonderful people that she works with. “I have found some forever friends working in the Recreation department,” says Andrews. “I cannot even express how much everyone I have worked with has shaped who I am as a senior walking out of BGSU.”

“Recreation and Wellness is a department on BGSU’s campus that I will forever be thankful that I became a part of,” Andrews says. “My college career would have looked a lot different without the experiences that I have had here.”

After graduation, Andrews will head off to get her Masters of Public Health at the University of Toledo and because of the opportunities and growth that she has had at the Recreation Center, she was offered the Graduate Assistant of Fitness position at their Recreation Center. “I am extremely excited to take what I have learned at the BGSU Recreation Center and implement some of it at the University of Toledo Recreation Center!”

Andrews says, “Thank you BGSU Recreation and Wellness for everything!”
