Nationally certified, BGSU personal trainers work with individuals one-on-one to provide the assistance, direction, and encouragement needed to succeed in meeting fitness goals ranging from weight loss, aerobic fitness, muscle toning, strength building, and flexibility.

With an unlimited Group X pass, you can attend any class on the schedule, which means lots of opportunity to unleash the power of physical activity:

Group Fitness FAQs

Passes can be purchased at the Student Recreation Center Welcome Desk, through the BGSU RecWell app for iPhone or android, or online using the MyRec portal: https://myrec.bgsu.edu/. BGSU faculty & staff are eligible to purchase continuning Group X passes using payroll deduction. Learn more about payroll deduction.

  • BGSU Students, Faculty & Staff: When logging in, select ‘BGSU MyRec Login’ and use your BGSU username and password.
  • Community Members: Contact Karyn Smith at karync@bgsu.edu to receive your username and password.

Semester Group X Unlimited Access Pass - Access all classes, any day, all semester long!

  • Students/SRC Members: $30
  • Faculty/Staff/Retiree: $50
  • SRC Non-Members: $70
  • Individual Day Pass: $5 - Access all classes for one day

Once a pass is purchased, Group X members can reserve a spot in a fitness class up to a week in advance.

  • Select 'Fitness', then 'Group Fitness', from the upper left drop-down menu
  • Select the class or classes in which you would like to participate, then select 'Register'   
    • Schedule subject to change.
    • Classes are first come, first served
General Information

Prior to attending a class, review all the rules and regulations and helpful tips below that are designed to provide the safest environment possible. Group X participants are also responsible to observe all Student Recreation Center and Recreation and Wellness Rules and Regulations.

  • Studio capacity is limited.
  • Participants are encouraged to clean equipment before and after use.
  • Patrons are encouraged to bring their own mat, workout towel and water bottle. Yoga class, participants are encouraged to bring their own mat, blocks & straps, although these items are also provided in the studio.
Assumption of Risk

If you engage in the virtual exercise classes, you agree that you do so at your own risk, are voluntarily participating in these activities, assume all risk of injury to yourself and agree to release and discharge RecWell and all employees and/or successors from any and all claims of action, known or unknown, or arising out of RecWell’s negligence.

Group Fitness Class Descriptions

The classes listed below are typically offered at some point during the calendar year, and not all are offered every semester.  

Strength Classes

Build strength with this dance, Pilates, and functional fitness fusion class. Barre offers a little bit of everything; including planks, pulses, holds, and unique euipment to ensure a whole body, kick-butt workout!

Love music and weight-lifting? Check out this high-energy weight lifting class to build lean, toned muscles. This class challenges you with a full body workout using high repetitions paired with light to moderate weights to burn calories, tone muscles quickly, and gain strength. Trained instructors keep you motivated, educated, and inspired to come back for more!

Cycle your way to increased cardiovascular fitness! This 45-minute class focuses on increasing strength and improving your cardiovascular system. Work your way through hills, jumps, sprints, and climbs with high-energy music to become a stronger you!

Check out Cycle and Core for all these benefits plus a distinct focus on strengthening the core! 

Try this awesome fusion class to incorporate the benefits of cycling and exercise circuits all in one class! Set to high-energy music, challenge, and strengthen your entire body with cycle circuits, and off-bike exercises.

Combing both HIIT and cycle workouts, HIIT cycle intersperses short, high-intensity interval exercise with a period of recovery in between. This high-energy class is combined with upbeat music and ends with a cool down and light stretching.

This high-energy class will keep you moving through multiple different exercises. Each class contains a rotation of several exercises, each targeting something different. This is a quick, effective, full-body workout for varying levels!

Tabata is based on High-Intensity Training for comprehensive total body workouts that focus on the lower body, upper body, and core providing both cardio and strength.

Looking for total body strength and cardio in one class? Total Body Burn is the class for you! Try this High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) circuit class designed to deliver a fun, calorie burning sweat session. The class utilizes body weight, exercise equipment, and cardio moves for a total body workout. The exercise equipment utilized includes: free weights, kettlebells, and TRX® suspension training equipment. 

innovative gym classesAn innovative exercise tool that helps build lean muscle, boost metabolism, tighten the core and increase endurance. This is a body weight workout that encourages "All Core All the Time!"

When TRX classes are offered they are included on the Group X schedule and additional fees do not apply! Purchase a Group X pass at the Student Recreation Center or Perry Field House Welcome Desk. TRX® Suspension Training is held in the Functional Training Zone.

Falcon Fitness offers private, individualized TRX® Suspension Training. Prices are based on personal training fees.

Looking for it all in one class? This versatile high-intensity interval training class combines the calorie-blasting ideals of cardio circuit training while developing a strong body along the way. This class utilizes TRX® suspension training equipment and other equipment to get your sweat on and strengthen your entire body in 45-minutes!

Mind & Body Classes

This class provides a fresh, dynamic twist to your usual yoga experience. Try Buti Yoga for a fun, empowering class that combines power yoga with cardio-intensive West African dance moves and primal movement to sculpt long, lean muscles. Leave class feeling proud, strong, and sweaty.

A more intense version of yoga, Cardio Yoga is a series of functional fitness exercises fused with yoga philosophy. There is a focus on both breath and body while moving through these poses. This is a full-body workout with adjustments for students of varying levels.

This 45-minute class focuses on re-centering and calming the mind and body. While you focus on your mediation and breath, the instructor provides Reiki energy healing, an ancient healing method. This class allows you to feel refreshed and centered.

This practice moves a little slower than a normal yoga flow, but still incorporates Vinyasa flow principles. It is a great time to slow down and refine the basics of your practice, while also giving an opportunity for breath work and meditation.

An hour-long class combining a yoga flow with a longer cool down, providing a space to re-center and practice your mind-body connection. Each class begins and ends with calming stretches, combined with an exercising flow in the middle for a great balance of work and rest.

Discover flexibility and build strength in this yoga class for EVERYONE, especially those brand new to yoga and seasoned practitioners. We will use props to explore how to align the poses with your body. Expect to laugh, work, and rest--have it all in Yoga for All! Instructor, Amanda Rzicznek, enthusiastically approaches teaching yoga with an open heart, acute attention to alignment, and a sense of humor. A lover of writing and literature, she teaches full-time in BGSU's English Department too!

Choreographed Fitness

This shallow water aqua class combines cardio and strength training that is low impact and easy on the joints. Instructors guide you through various exercises while utilizing aqua equipment and resistance from the water to provide a fun, full body workout! All fitness levels welcome.

Join Falcon Fitness for a “pool” party! This aqua class integrates a cardio dance formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines. This fun dance class blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that is cardio conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, enjoyable!

An upbeat cardio dance-based class for all fitness levels! Inclusive and fun, “Dance it Off” is perfect for anyone looking to move their body and break a sweat. This class also features a variety of music including k-pop, making for a lively fitness experience!

STRONG 30 (TM) combines high intensity interval training with the science of Synced Music Motivation for a fun, full-body workout for any fitness level!

A step based class combining cardio with toning exercises on and off the step board for all ages. This is a great way to increase co-ordination, build fitness and introduce cardio into your workout as well as tone up different muscle groups in one session. For ages: 14-99

WERQ® is a fiercely fun dance fitness workout class based on pop, rock, and hip-hop music taught by Certified Fitness Professionals. The signature WERQ® warmup previews the dance steps used throughout class, so you’ll feel rockstar-ready by the end of class! The signature WERQ™ cool-down focuses on balance and yoga inspired poses to help the body stretch effectively after WERQing it.

Join the Falcon Fitness Dance party! Zumba® fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a high-energy, calorie blasting, total body cardio dance workout. It provides a great mix of Latin flavor and international beats designed to tone and sculpt your entire body while dancing your workout away!

Enjoy a twist to traditional step aerobics! Try this class to discover the powerful combination of step aerobics with lightweights to tone your muscles. This is an excellent cross-training class for all fitness levels.
