BAND AUDITION INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

Dear Music Students Auditioning For BGSU Bands,

Summer is winding down and it is time to begin thinking about the new school year. It is our goal to conduct efficient and fair auditions for all students.  Your cooperation with the following procedures will help achieve this goal. Please take a few minutes to review the audition schedule for our band ensembles in the College of Musical Arts.

Ensemble Requirements:

·      All undergraduate music majors are required to audition and enroll in a major ensemble each semester they are enrolled for applied lessons. Ensemble choices should be appropriate to the student's major and principal instrument.

·      Most ensembles require a placement audition.

·      Graduate music students choose the ensembles in which they wish to perform depending on their preference and in consultation with their studio teacher and ensemble directors.

Percussion Auditions for Bands: These will take place on Sunday, 8/24 at 11 a.m. in Kelly Hall (MMAC Room 1012). Excerpts have been sent directly to students. If you are interested in auditioning on percussion and have not received excerpts, please contact Dr. Dan Piccolo (dpiccol@bgsu.edu).

Band Wind and Brass:
Band Wind and Brass auditions will take place on Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26.

Placement:  This audition is for placement for the academic year, with the following exception: auditions will be held to fill seats in spring semester created by vacancies due to student teaching, etc.

What to Prepare:  Each student should bring two prepared solos or etudes of contrasting styles that demonstrates both their musical and technical abilities.

Audition Judges:  The studio teacher of your instrument will judge auditions. Sign-up sheets will be posted on individual studio doors.

Remaining Band Auditions
Wind studio teachers finish any remaining Band auditions before noon. Sign-up sheets will be posted on studio doors. Please submit results to mdocken@bgsu.edu by 1pm on Tuesday.
