This series is specifically designed for graduate students. Faculty and instructors may also find these workshops useful if they plan to collaborate with graduate students on evidence synthesis projects. 

Community Description:

Scoping and systematic reviews are common types of evidence synthesis research methodologies and are increasingly popular in a variety of disciplines. Quality reviews meet the following criteria: they are comprehensive, rigorous, transparent, and objective. 

This Community of Practice prepares graduate students to recognize the essential steps in review methodologies and processes, including selecting an appropriate review type and using established guidelines for planning, conducting, and documenting your review. Please bring a potential research question to refine during the series. 

Community Learning Outcomes:

By participating in this community, you will be able to:

• Explore the differences between scoping and systematic reviews and other types of evidence synthesis methods and matching research questions to the appropriate review type.

• Learn what a protocol is, why it's important, and identify established guidelines on how to write a protocol and what to include. 

• Use PICO or a similar framework to craft clear, precise research questions. 

• Identify relevant databases, compile effective search terms and subject headings, and understand how search syntax varies across platforms.

Participant Expectations:

As a member of this community, you are expected to:

• Meet the community learning outcomes.
• Actively participate in and attend all scheduled community meetings (or meet the participation requirements determined by the facilitator).
• Effectively communicate any roadblocks with the facilitator in a timely manner.
• Complete any assignments and/or asynchronous tasks.
• Complete any necessary deliverable activities or projects as determined by the facilitator.
