Bowling Green State University has received a report of a sexual assault. The University shares this information so that members of the community can take appropriate precautions. Campus notifications are made in compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998. Certain details in this alert are omitted to protect the privacy of the reporting party.

Reported Incident

A female student reported that she was sexually assaulted while on the BGSU campus by a male known to her. It was indicated that the assault occurred on the night of April 8, 2021, and/or the early morning hours of April 9, 2021. The female student stated there was oral penetration without her consent and unwanted touching of private body parts.

Risk Reduction and Prevention

While the ultimate responsibility lies with those who are initiating sex acts, understanding some facts about sexual assault and consent can help reduce the risk. The following information is to heighten your awareness, enable bystanders to intervene where possible and aid in the prevention of similar crimes:

  • Sexual assault is never the survivor’s fault.
  • On college campuses, 90 percent of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the survivor.
  • For any sexual activity, consent must be present.
  • A person may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Perpetrators often use alcohol or drugs to facilitate a sexual assault.
  • Remember to Step Up and Step In.
  • The campus shuttle service or a taxi provides safe options for transportation.

Reporting

Sexual assaults that occur off campus can be reported to Bowling Green City Police (911 or 419-352-2571 for non-emergencies) or police in the jurisdiction in which the assault took place. Sexual assaults involving students may also be reported to BGSU’s Title IX Office at 419-372-8476 or the Office of the Dean of Students at 419-372-2843.

Certain details in this alert are omitted to protect the privacy of the reporting party.

Reported Incident

A female student reported that she was fondled while walking near Prout Chapel on March 24, 2021, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. It was reported that an unknown male suspect put his hand on her shoulder and grabbed her buttock. If anyone has additional information related to this incident, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students or BGSU Police.

Reported Incident:
A female student reported that she was fondled in Offenhauer West on February 6, 2020. The suspect is a male who is known to the student through social media. While in her residence hall room the male suspect touched a private body part without consent.

City of Bowling Green Police are seeking information about a reported kidnapping and sexual assault in the city. Anyone with information regarding this case can call the Bowling Green Police at (419) 352-2571 or Wood County Crime Stoppers at (419) 352-0077.

City of Bowling Green Police have shared the following incident about a reported abduction and sexual assault in the city.
Anyone with information regarding this case can call the Bowling Green Police at (419) 352-2571 or Wood County Crime Stoppers at (419) 352-0077.
BGSU Police offer the following safety tips:

  • If you see a crime being committed, call 911 immediately.
  • Try not to walk alone at night. Walk with another person or a group of people and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Walking escorts are available on the Bowling Green campus between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. by calling 419-372-8360.
  • The campus shuttle service is also a good alternative to walking alone.

Members of the University community are encouraged to report instances of sexual assault and/or seek support. BGSU Police, the Office of Residence Life, the Title IX coordinator, the Office of the Dean of Students, and the Counseling Center are among the campus units that students can turn to for resources and support.

We report these incidents to help raise awareness in and among the University community and to enable community members to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of crime.

Oct. 24, 2014 Update

The Bowling Green Police Department has released still photos of a suspect taken from cell phone video of the robbery that occurred in the 800 block of E. Wooster St. (on the sidewalk between Founders and South Hall) just before 3 a.m. on Sept. 28.

Contact Detective Scott Kleiber with the Bowling Green Police or Wood County Crime Stoppers at 419-352-0077 if you have information in the case. Information leading to a conviction could result in a cash reward up to $1,000.

September 28, 2014
Incident: Strong-arm robbery

Bowling Green Police are investigating a strong-arm robbery that occurred in the 800 block of E. Wooster St. (on the sidewalk between Founders and South Hall) just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Two male victims were reportedly assaulted by several males. An iPhone 6 was taken from one of the victims during the incident. No weapons were involved. The suspects fled from the area when a marked patrol unit approached the scene.

A short time after the robbery, a police officer observed a person in the area who appeared to be a white male with a dark complexion, or a black male with light skin. The suspect has a 3/4 length sleeve tattoo on his right arm. He fled on foot when the officer turned to approach him.

The victims were treated and released at the hospital.

September 18, 2014

Incident: Escaped Inmate - CAPTURED!

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies are actively searching for Jhon M. Rosado, an escaped inmate from the Northwest Community Correction Center, located at 1740 E. Gypsy Lane in Bowling Green.

Around 8:15 p.m. on September 17, Rosado escaped custody by jumping the fence and running into the cornfield to the north.

Rosado is 24 years old and was last seen wearing a blue jump suit and orange sweatshirt.

Residents are asked to notify police of any suspicious persons or activity by calling 419-354-9001 or 911.

Rosado was captured September 18, 2014.

December 19, 2013

Incident: Sexual Assault

On December 17 a female student reported to a Hall Director that she was sexually assaulted near the Wolfe Center at the beginning of the semester in early September of 2013. She said the incident occurred between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and the suspect was a male that was unknown to her. She was unable to provide any other description of the suspect.

BGSU Police remind the University community that:.

  • Sexual Assault is any non-consensual sexual activity. No means No!
  • For any sexual activity to be consensual, it must be clearly communicated.
  • Sexual Assault includes any sexual activity with a person whose judgment is impaired by alcohol or drugs. Only those who are sober can give consent.

Title IX provides additional information regarding services available to sexual assault victims, as well as important policies and laws.

Incident: Assault

On Sunday, October 13, a student reported to the BGSU Police Department that three unknown white males had assaulted him at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 6, in University Parking Lot E.

The victim stated that one suspect had blond hair and was wearing a black shirt, the second had brown hair and was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, and the third had brown hair and was wearing an orange V-neck shirt.

Lot E is located along Thurstin Street across from the Student Union.

BG Police Seek Assistance in Identifying Possible Robbery Suspects

City of Bowling Green Police have developed information that has led to the image below of 2 black males in Offenhauer Towers who are possible suspects in the robbery at 524 N. Enterprise on Tuesday afternoon. The video shows the unidentified subjects walking in a hallway. One is holding a towel to a cut on his forehead believed to have been sustained as he was fleeing the robbery. These subjects may be armed and should be considered dangerous. If you know who they are, do not confront them. Call the Bowling Green Police Division at 419-352-2571 or BGSU Police at 419-372-2346.

Computer Theft 

BGSU Police are searching for two suspects in the theft of four Apple iMac desktop computers from the Batchelder computer lab in the Kreisher Quadrangle. The theft occurred around 2 a.m. on Sept. 21.

Both suspects were caught on surveillance video. The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 150-160 lbs., with a slender build.

The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet, 3 inches tall, 190-210 lbs., with an athletic build.

Incident: Robbery

A 23-year-old male has reported that a robbery occurred just after 4 a.m. on Saturday, August 24. The victim indicated that an unknown male reached into his front pants pocket and stole $120 in cash. The incident occurred in university Parking Lot B, near WBGU's building on Troup St.

The victim described the suspect as a heavyset black male approximately 6' 02" tall. He was reportedly wearing a red hoodie with unknown lettering.

The victim was not injured in the incident.
