Additional Music Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

The College of Musical Arts has several scholarships outside of the Hansen Fellowship and Bravo Music Award that are available to incoming freshman music majors (listed below). In addition to a Hansen Fellowship application and Bravo Award Audition, students are encouraged to apply through Academic Works for the scholarships listed on this page. Academic Works is a system that matches applicants with all other music scholarships to which they are eligible based on the information provided in one short application.

College of Musical Arts Scholarships available to incoming freshman students 

Berns and Kahn Family Scholarship in Music Education 

Awarded annually to an incoming freshman who plans to major in Music Education based upon the recommendation of BGSU Music Education Faculty.  

Carolyn Houk Scholarship 

Awarded to a music major on any instrument upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Musical Arts 

David D. Dubois Piano Fund 

Awarded to an incoming freshman who plans to major in piano upon the recommendation of BGSU piano faculty. May be renewed for 3 years.  

David Glasmire Memorial Scholarship 

Awarded to an incoming freshman who plans to major in trombone upon the recommendation of the BGSU trombone professor. 

Dr. Barbara Allyen Lockard-Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship 

Awarded to voice majors of any class standing upon the recommendation of BGSU voice faculty.   

Dr. Marjorie E. Conrad Voice Scholarship 

Award to an incoming freshman who plans to major in voice upon the recommendation of BGSU voice faculty. May be renewed for 3 years. 

Frances Burnett Scholarship 

Awarded to an incoming freshman who plans to major in piano upon the recommendation of the BGSU piano faculty.   

Grafner and Bleckner Music Scholarship 

Awarded to piano majors upon the recommendation of BGSU piano faculty. 

Jan Arthur and Herbert B. Van Gorder Memorial Scholarship 

Awarded to a student whose major instrument is trumpet and participating in the Falcon Marching Band. Students must apply through Academic Works to be eligible.  

Lee Z. Steele Music Scholarship 

Awarded to voice majors upon the recommendation of BGSU voice faculty.   

Mark S. Kelly Band Scholarship 

Awarded annually to an incoming freshman who plans to major in music on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. Students must apply through Academic Works to be eligible.  

Mary Ann (Dalton) '60 & Eugene R. Wilson '60 Choral Music Scholarship Fund 

Awarded to an incoming freshman who plans to major in Choral Music Education, preferably from a small town in Northwest Ohio. This scholarship is renewable for three years.  

Roger Short Scholarship 

Awarded to an incoming freshman music major upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Musical Arts.  

 William W. Engelke Scholarship 

Awarded to an incoming freshman music major upon the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Musical Arts.
