Fall 2025 Jazz Ensemble Auditions

Rhythm Section for all Jazz Ensembles (piano, bass, guitar, drums, vibraphone):
Monday, August 25, 6-8 pm, Kelly Hall (Room 1012)

·      Lead sheets and possible big-band parts with a rhythm section. Expect to read chord symbols and traditional notation, comp, and solo.

·      Please arrive by 6pm and stay until the auditions are over.

Lab Band Horns (saxophones, trumpets, trombones): 
Tuesday, August 26, noon-3 pm, Kelly Hall (Room 1012)

·      Concert Bb mixolydian scale, full range, swung

·      Chromatic scale, full range

·      Prepare the parts for Blues Strut and Shadowboxing for your instrument
          Tenor 1
          Alto 1
          Bari Sax
          Trumpet 1
          Trombone
          Bass Trombone

·      Sight reading

·      Saxophones 12-1pm, trumpets 1-2pm, trombones 2-3pm.

·      Auditions heard in order of arrival

Chamber Jazz Ensemble Horns (all non-rhythm section instruments): 
Tuesday, August 26, 7-8:30 pm, Room 2015

·      Prepare an American songbook tune or a jazz standard. Play melody and solo.
