The La Porte Community School Corporation is looking for a band director for the 2026-2027 school year. Our program has 150+ band students who meet on a block 8 schedule with 75 minute class periods. There is a strong middle school program, and strong community and parent support for the arts.
Responsibilities include:
Team teaching 3 curricular concert bands (2 teachers for all three bands)
Team teaching 2 curricular jazz bands (2 teachers for both bands)
Elective class opportunities include some, but not all of the following:
Music Theory
Electronic Music
Dual Credit Music History
Class Piano
Extra curricular music opportunities:
Marching Band Head Director
currently competing in ISSMA Scholastic A class
Pep Band
Pit Orchestra
Salary:
Base Pay: $47,500
Additional years of experience can be added
Additional stipends:
Marching Band Head Director: $8,000
Band Director: $3,500
Pit Orchestra: $1,500
Pep Band: $750
Education: Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as required by MDE.
Criminal history background check.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in playing an orchestral string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass).
Ability to teach proper string technique to students of varying abilities
Ability to arrange music to fit the various levels of students
Ability to plan and implement lessons which engage and excite musicians of all ages to support the continued growth of the orchestra program.
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
Preferred:
Previous experience in a comparable district

Salary:
Commensurate with credentials and level of experience and in accordance with MPS salary schedule. Starting range $51,814.00-$75,437.00.

Eligible for Michigan ORS retirement plan for public school employees.
Paid time off includes ten (10) sick leave days, three (3) personal days, and two (2) professional improvement days.
