Finance Advisory Board


The Finance Advisory Board is comprised of successful alumni and friends of the Department of Finance. The Board draws upon their professional expertise to advise the Dean, Department Chair, and faculty on strategic planning, curricula, student mentorship, co-ops, job placement, career development, faculty engagement with industry, and alumni affairs. In addition, the Board promotes the Department by highlighting the achievements of faculty, students, and alumni in their professional network. The Board meets once or twice per year. Members are expected to attend meetings and be available to advise the Chair between meeting(s).

Members are selected by the Dean and Department Chair. Prospective members should send a resume and statement of interest to the Department Chair. See the highly successful business leaders who have already made the commitment to serve on the Finance Advisory Board.

Mr. Adams joined American Mutual Share Insurance Corporation as Senior Vice President – Risk Management in April, 1986.  He has since moved from Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer to President/Chief Executive Officer and Board Member. In this role, hs duties include the management of a $280 million corporation with a national footprint, employing a 30-person staff, as well as developing and implementing company policies, business strategies and action plans set by the company’s elected board of directors.

Peter Bahner

Peter is the Manager of Financial Services for the Northeast Ohio Financial Group of Prudential Advisors since 2019. He is responsible for developing relationships with business leaders within local communities, as well as Financial Professional Associates (FPAs) in the areas of relationship-based sales process, marketing strategy and client development  Prior to this role, Peter spent 2 years serving as the Manager of Training and Development at Prudential Advisors at Mayfield Heights, OH.

John retired from the Atlanta office of Cantor Fitzgerald in 2018. He worked for 35 years in the capital markets helping institutional investors develop strategies to increase the risk-adjusted returns of their fixed income portfolios. Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald in 2005, John worked for Legg Mason Wood Walker and Wachovia Bank in Atlanta. He is also an author, and has written three investment management books and taught asset liability management at the American Bankers Association’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking from 1996 to 2000.

Prior to this role, he was the Director of Portfolio Construction and Analytics, overseeing strategic and tactical asset allocation guidance for taxable and tax-exempt model portfolios, maintaining a focused list of conviction managers in traditional asset classes research and selection, among other management responsibilities. And prior to Abbot Downing, Dan was a portfolio manager at Lowry Hill

Perry Cabean

Perry is active in community related activities, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of The Twenty, a Winston-Salem, North Carolina based think tank dedicated to providing economic empowerment and access to capital to North Carolina’s marginalized communities.

Tim is active in the community, serving on multiple Boards and Committees including: LifeCenter Organ Donor Network, Butler County Port Authority, Liberty Township Economic Development, and Hoxworth Blood Center.

Brendan and his team work with a small, selective group of clients that include successful private business owners, senior executives / professionals, affluent families and retirees to assist them with their wealth management needs and financial affairs. Within his community, Brendan has served as a volunteer and participated on various committees for the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Mark Kangas

Within his community, he is a member of the Diamond Advisory Board for University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, organizations he has been supporting for more than a decade.

Bruce Misamore

Position: Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee

From early 2001 until the end of 2005, Bruce was the Chief Financial Officer of YUKOS Oil Company, the then-largest Russian oil company and the 4th largest oil producing company in the world in Moscow, Russia, and served as a Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.

Prior to joining YUKOS, Bruce had been Senior Vice President – Finance and Treasurer of PennzEnergy Company. His prior positions also included Vice President and Treasurer of Pennzoil Company, various financial management positions with Marathon Oil Company/USX Corporation, and teaching finance at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). In 2004, he was named the top CEO/CFO in Russia for investor relations by IR magazine, and was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate of BGSU.

He has been personally interviewed for and extensively contributed to articles in CFO Magazine, AFP Exchange Magazine,, AP Matters, and was named one of the “100 Most Influential People In Finance” by Treasury and Risk Magazine.

In April 2016, Neil Roache was named Assistant Treasurer, Chief Investment Officer at Johnson & Johnson, in charge of its $22.3B pension trust. Prior to joining J&J, Roach was part of the Exelon Investment Office as Director of Public Markets and Investment Strategy. The Exelon Investment Office oversees approximately $35B in Pension, VEBA, Nuclear Decommissioning Trusts, and Employee Savings Plan assets.  Neil and his team were responsible for private equity and real estate investments as well as investment strategy across the different trusts.

Leo Svoboda

Position: Senior Investment Professional - Head of Liquid Alternatives
Nationwide Insurance

Leo Svoboda joined Nationwide Investments in August of 2017, from Penso Advisors, a global macro hedge fund. At Nationwide Leo leads the team managing the Liquid Alternatives exposure for Nationwide's portfolios. This includes hedge fund strategies, equities, and emerging market debt instruments. Prior to joining Penso he was the head of the $4.5b Liquid Alternatives business at the UPS Group Trust. In this role Leo allocated the preponderance of the Trust’s hedge fund exposure. Leo also invested an opportunistic portfolio under the liquid alternatives umbrella. 

In addition to his work in alternatives Leo served as interim Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, developed portfolio wide risk analytics, consulted on portfolio level asset allocation and hedging strategy, and served on the Trust’s investment committee. Leo is a CFA Charterholder and a certified FRM.
