MFA in Art
The Master of Fine Arts is the terminal studio degree preparing students to be professional artists and to teach at the college or university level. Areas of specialization include 2D studio art (drawing/painting or printmaking), 3D studio art (ceramics, glass, jewelry/metals, sculpture), and digital arts (computer animation, digital imaging, interactive media).
Application requires the presentation of a comprehensive portfolio in addition to general admission procedures. Admission is selective and competitive based on the number of well-qualified applicants and the availability of faculty and facilities.
MFA in Art students are given the opportunity to hone their craft by elevating their technical, contextual and conceptual skills and developing a distinct artistic voice. Graduate students have the flexibility to either focus exclusively on a single area or combine coursework across disciplines.
Students are required to participate in the MFA Exhibition, showcasing the culmination of the candidate’s work in their discipline.
The BGSU School of Art provides mentorship, resources and connections for students to graduate with a cohesive body of work that will help launch a successful career as a working artist, art educator or art industry leader.
