Favorite Class: Public Relations for Non-Majors

What drew you to the advertising major?
I was drawn to the advertising major because I wanted a second major to accompany my major in film production. When I saw advertising, I was like, "Yeah, I want to do that."

What do you want to learn as an advertising major?
Some goals that I hope to attain as an advertising major are to learn how to build a self-brand and learn how to strategically market a specific idea or product to a finely tuned market.

What interests you about advertising?
I love how collaborative it is and how it teaches you to work as a team. Advertising lets you use your creativity and innovation to better understand consumer psychology.

Why did you choose the advertising major?
I wanted to be an advertising major because it gives you the opportunity to express yourself through your work. It also allows you to build more connections with more people.

What drew you to the advertising major?
I chose advertising as my second major in order to build my resume and become more educated for my future field: Social Media Marketing. I would also explore other job options such as sales or marketing.

What interests you the most about advertising?
I love learning about advertising and how our modern world revolves around it. I build my own portfolio through my work in advertising, and it's so cool to see how everybody else does as well.

What interested you about the advertising major?
I’ve always been really interested in consumer psychology, and I grew up in a very creative family. I was always drawn to the business side and the creative side, so I thought I would merge my two loves and become an advertising major.

Do you have advice for students considering the major?
If you are interested in the creation of advertising, I would encourage you to become an advertising major just to see what it’s like and to learn more about yourself and other people.

Favorite Class: ADV 3800 Advertising Copywriting and Creative Strategy

What drew you to the advertising major?
I was watching one of my favorite shows senior year of high school, and the father of the show had a job at an advertising company. From there, I just thought it would be an interesting career.

What do you want to learn in the advertising major?
I want to learn how to be more creative and think more freely.

Favorite Class: MDIA 4610 Audience Researching and Targeting

What's the most valuable experience you've had as an advertising major?
I had the opportunity to sign up for the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Academy out of Washington D.C. because of my major. It is a free program, and they flew us out to D.C. for a weekend to learn about the advertising industry.

Why did you choose the advertising major?
I chose this major because it spoke to me when I first found out about it. It was the closest major to everything I wanted from the College of Business and more. The advertising major was more my speed, and I am truly happy to be in the College of Arts and Sciences now.

What drew you to the advertising major?
I was drawn to the advertising major because the coursework combined the creative aspect and marketing and research.

What’s the most valuable experience you’ve had as an advertising major?
The on-campus internship was the most valuable to me because I kind of learned what it was like in the field.

What drew you to the advertising major?
As a music industry minor, I really wanted to pursue a career in musician branding. The advertising program offered me a chance to incorporate that into my major, so it was a no-brainer decision.

What advice do you have for someone considering the advertising major?
I transferred majors after taking a few introductory classes. I’d suggest taking classes like Introduction to Advertising and meeting with the professors to see if it’s the right fit for you.

What interests you about advertising?
I am able to be myself. I also love how it is a very collaborative major. You learn how to work well in teams and to bounce ideas off each other.

Why did you choose the advertising major?
Something that initially drew me to the advertising major was that it is a growing industry. It involves social media and being able to express yourself within your work.

What drew you to the advertising major?
I was drawn to the advertising major because I wanted a degree where I could be creative, but also enjoy the more practical side of things. You get to work with a lot of creative programs, and it’s a very in-demand job market.

What interests you most about advertising?
You have to be able to adapt to different situations, and not to mention you can advertise anything, whether it’s an event, a company, a person, or more.

What do you want to learn in the advertising major?
I think an interesting part of advertising is the psychology behind why an ad is effective. That’s something I’m interested in learning more about. I would also like to intern with an advertising agency either this year or over the summer next year to get a feel for what it’s like in the field.

How did you hear about the advertising major?
I transferred my major from studying media productions because I was planning to minor in advertising, and I just felt like I was more intrigued by advertising to study in depth.

What's the most valuable thing you've learned as an advertising major?
I’ve learned that a big part of advertising is playing around with algorithms, using hashtags, keywords... and making content specifically for your audience to get your content noticed.

What advice would you give a student who is considering the advertising major?
I would tell them to go for it! Everyone involved in the program is very nice and accepting. You meet some great people and it is a great community to show off your creativity.
