Mary Kay has worked with the Thompson Working Families Scholarship since August 2016 and oversees all aspects of Thompson Scholarship Programs, which is the Student Services & Programming/Retention piece of the scholarship. She enjoys getting to know her students and helping them reach their goals. Mary Kay is a two-time BGSU graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education - Sport Management and a Master of Education - Sport Administration. Mary Kay has worked in higher education for more than 15 years. Previously, she worked in athletics and academic advising. She loves attending BGSU Athletics and community events, being outdoors and spending time with her husband, Scott, and two daughters, Charis and Amelia.

Payne-Kristin

Kristin started with Thompson Scholarship Programs in June 2018, transitioning from the BGSU College of Arts & Sciences where she served as an academic advisor. She is a 2003 and 2008 BGSU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel. Kristin has more than a decade of higher education experience including admissions, recruitment, academic advising and teaching. Kristin resides in Perrysburg, Ohio with her partner, Benjamin, their three lively children, a German Shepherd and a super cool cat.

Alexander-Coster-Morgan

Morgan Alexander-Coster, M.A. ‘22

Morgan is from Charlotte, North Carolina and earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science - Public Administration with minors in leadership and nonprofit management from Appalachian State University. After working at the University of Tennessee, she earned her Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. While at BGSU, Morgan has worked with several different offices across campus, most recently as a graduate advisor with Thompson Scholarship Programs. Morgan's undergraduate experience as a first-generation, low-income student — and her involvement with student organizations, leadership programs, and service learning — drives her passion for helping every student create a college experience that works for them and achieves their own version of success! She loves cooking, tending to her numerous house plants, and spending quality time with her wife, friends, orange cats and brown dog (Go Falcons!).

Heenehan-Fonda

Fonda joined the Thompson Scholarship Team in August 2022. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science from Warren Wilson College in 2018, and a Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont in 2020. Fonda has lived in six different states and has lived in Bowling Green with her partner (and houseplants!) since Summer 2021. While she misses hiking in the Appalachian and Green Mountains, she has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the green spaces that northwest Ohio has to offer.

Smith-DeVona

DeVona Smith, M.Ed '02

DeVona was honored to join the Thompson Scholarship Program in fall 2022. DeVona has worked in mental health, domestic violence and trauma prevention and in crisis intervention. She is also a community trainor and educator, and DeVona counts all of these experiences as career highlights. She continued on to provide coaching in higher education and the community and specializes in assisting people in identifying and achieving their goals. Her faith, love, personal trauma and education are just a few of the things that have shaped her into the person she is today. As one of our scholarship advisors, she wants to be a part of your team, so don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

Diefenbach-Ashleigh

Ashleigh is a graduate advisor for the Thompson Working Family Scholarship Program. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2022 and decided to continue her educational journey at BGSU. During her undergraduate degree, Ashleigh was a campus tour guide, a front desk clerk at Centennial Hall, an active member of the Falcon Marching Band and participated in quite a few student organizations. Ashleigh hopes to help students find their place and passion during their college experience. Outside of school, Ashleigh enjoys attending concerts, binge-watching Netflix and taking her cat on walks.

Sam McDonald

Sam joined our Thompson Scholarship Programs team in August 2023 as a Graduate Advisor. She graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech language hearing sciences and Spanish in Spring 2023 and is continuing her education in BGSU’s College Student Personnel Master’s Program. During her undergraduate years, Sam was a campus tour guide, Student Orientation Coordinator, and was heavily involved in a variety of student organizations. She is excited to help students feel a strong sense of community on campus and feel as though they can make a positive difference in the world. Outside of school, she likes trying new coffee shops, exercising, and watching sports.

Marianne started working with Thompson Scholarship Programs in April 2021 but has been working at BGSU since July 2002. Previously with the Student and Academic Services office in the College of Education and Human Development. She has enjoyed being on campus and interacting with the students.
