University Choral Society

Welcome to the University Choral Society page!

The University Choral Society (UCS) is a large, auditioned chorus consisting of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Each year, the UCS presents its “Joyous Sounds” holiday concert in the fall semester and performs a major choral/orchestral work with the BGSU Philharmonia or the Toledo Symphony Orchestra in the spring. Students and others wishing to receive academic credit should register for the course, MUSP 4760E. Community members, faculty and staff not needing academic credit may participate by contributing a minimal membership fee.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 7:30–9:30 p.m., Room 1040 BGSU Moore Musical Arts Center

2025-2026 season

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the BGSU College of Musical Arts, current BGSU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Richard Schnipke, and former BGSU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. William Skoog, will serve as guest conductors of the UCS for the 25-26 season!

Fall 2025

Dr. Schnipke will conduct the annual Joyous Sounds holiday concert on Tuesday, December 2 at the Bowling Green First United Methodist Church. Repertoire will include classics by Franz Schubert, George Frederick Handel and Tomas Luis de Victoria, notable contemporary works by Morten Lauridsen, Dan Forrest, Zebulon Highben and Andre Thomas, and familiar holiday favorites including Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, O Holy Night, and Silent Night.

Spring 2026

Dr. William Skoog, Conductor

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the BGSU College of Musical Arts, the choral department will participate in a gala concert with the Bowling Green Philharmonia and faculty soloists on April 19. For this gala, Dr. Skoog will prepare the UCS to perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Samuel Adler and Leonard Bernstein!  The UCS will also perform Morten Lauridsen’s inspirational work, Lux Aeterna, with the BGSU Collegiate Chorale and university instrumentalists on March 29.

Spring semester rehearsals begin on Tuesday, January 13 at 7:30 PM in room 1040 of the Moore Musical Arts Center.  Community members, alumni, faculty, staff, and students interested in joining the group are welcome to attend!  Dr. Skoog will be available for new member voice placement hearings before and after the first 2 rehearsals of the semester.
