Local musical acts step into spotlight

This essay talks about local band Sankofa Sounds playing at this year's Black Swamp Arts Festival. The essay talks a bit about the group's journey, including their origin as the BGSU Afro-Caribbean Ensemble. 

Started by alumni Nick Kiekenapp, Sankofa Sounds is comprised of faculty and of BGSU who were affiliated with the Afro-Caribbean Ensemble. Performing music from Africa and the global Black diasporas, they continue the mission of the ensemble by engaging our wider community in African soundworlds and building musical bridges. 

It's great to see a university ensemble having such a huge impact on the musical landscape of Northwest Ohio. It's truly for the public good!
