CMA Alumnus Felix Reyes Releases Album, When Dark Sounds Collide

Pathos Trio, a classical/contemporary instrumental trio consisting of percussionists Felix Reyes (MM, percussion 2017) and Marcelina Suchocka, and composer/pianist Alan Hankers, are releasing their debut album, When Dark Sounds Collide, on March 18th, 2022 on Panoramic Recordings, an imprint of New Focus Recordings. This album features new works for piano and percussion by young, new music composers Evan Chapman, Alison Yun-Fei Jiang, Alyssa Weinberg, Finola Merivale, and Alan Hankers.

Each of the five compositions on the album was commissioned and premiered exclusively by Pathos Trio as part of their initiative to create a strong, cross-genre program of music that combines contemporary classical aesthetics with the ensemble's interests in dark, heavy, dense sounds drawn from other genres of music such as alternative rock, cathedral music, minimalist music, electronic synth-wave, and more.

To enhance the experience, all the works on the album have an accompanying music video produced by Grammy-nominated film company Four/Ten Media. Anticipating that the future of the entertainment industry will be centered around media presentation and that the attention of today’s audiences are increasingly more tuned into visual-based media, these videos also make the album's works available to a much wider range of listeners spanning across multiple genres of music. Pathos Trio aims to create music videos for each newly commissioned work going forward.

This album is a part of an over two-year-long project that started in early 2019, shortly after the formation of the ensemble in late 2018, and has involved close collaborations with each composer involved. The product of these works has been a result of countless workshop sessions in Brooklyn, NY and residencies at Avaloch Farm Music Institute, and has been supported in part by musical and cultural institutions such as New Music USA, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Chamber Music America, and the New York State Council of the Arts.

Pathos is set to tour throughout the East Coast starting in Spring 2022 to promote the album, beginning with an album release concert at the New World Center in Miami Beach, FL on Monday, March 14th, 2022, at 7:30pm EST.

The tour continues at MISE-EN Place Greenpoint in Brooklyn, NY in May/June 2022 (exact date TBA), the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, New York, NY in December 2022 (exact date TBA), and virtual release concerts to be held shortly after their Miami show on both March 20th and March 27th at 7pm EST through Musicivic.
