Housing Status
During the fall each year, the Office of Student Housing emails all students currently living on campus their housing status for the next academic year. A student's housing status will either be guaranteed or not guaranteed.
Guaranteed
A new or returning student who has NOT met the residency requirement, meaning you have not lived in on-campus housing for two years/four semesters, following the upcoming 2027 spring semester.
Not guaranteed
A returning student who has met the residency requirement, meaning you will have lived in on-campus housing for two years/four semesters, following the upcoming 2027 spring semester.
First priority for housing goes to...
- First-year and transfer students admitted to BGSU for the first time as of August 2026.
- Second-year students who were first-year or new transfer students in August 2025 or January 2026 and returning to BGSU.
- Returning students who will be living in their chapter house in the Greek Village during the 2027-28 academic school year.
- Students employed by the Office of Residence Life who are required to live on campus as part of their job responsibilities.
Returning students in their third year (or more) will not be guaranteed on campus housing and need to secure off campus living accommodations. Students whose housing status is not guaranteed but would like to still apply to live on campus will need to complete the necessary steps to change their status to guaranteed.
If your housing status is not guaranteed
You are now eligible to live off campus!
If you are a returning student who has met your residency requirement, meaning you will have lived in on-campus housing for two years/four semesters (following the upcoming spring semester), you will receive the housing status, not guaranteed.
There are over 19,000 students enrolled at BGSU, and around 6,000 beds are available in on-campus residence halls. Because of this, the Office of Student Housing cannot guarantee on-campus housing to students who have met their Residency Requirement.
We encourage you to secure off-campus housing arrangements, but if you wish to live in on-campus housing again past your required two years/four semesters, you will need to complete the Request to Live On-Campus process.
Important reminder
Until you have confirmation from the Office of Student Housing that your request to live on campus past your residency requirment has been approved, you should be looking for off campus housing.
Off-Campus Student Services provides updated information about rentals in the Bowling Green area. Here you can find information about available rentals, see videos from different properties, find roommates and connect to other important resources.
We find most students want to live off campus after they meet their Residency Requirement, but there are a handful who like to live on-campus for more than two years. If you would like to live on campus again next year, you must submit a request to have your status changed from not guaranteed to guaranteed. You will not be able to select on-campus housing if you do not fill the request form out.
If you are a Greek or Learning Community member, there are separate processes you need to follow. If you do not fall under these two categories, you will need to fill out the form below.
Submit your request to live on campus
Deadline to complete your Request to Live On-Campus is Friday, Nov. 13.
Important reminder
Filling out a request to live on campus does not guarantee housing. Students who are not guaranteed housing should consider this their status until they receive official approval from the Office of Student Housing. Approvals will be sent to students via email to your BGSU email account after Nov. 16.
