Returning Student Housing Guide
This may not be your first time going through the Housing Selection Process, but we have been doing this for years. Let us guide you so all you have to worry about is how you are going to accessorize your new space and all the new friends you are going to make next year.
Returning students who have not lived on campus for two years (four semesters) as of the 2026 Fall semester are required to live on campus unless you meet one of our housing exemptions.
Step 1 | Complete your Housing Application
In order for returning students to select on-campus housing, they will need to log in to their BGSU Housing Portal and complete the following:
- Accept the terms of the on-campus housing and dining agreement.
- Make the $200 initial housing payment.*
- Submit health and emergency contact information.
- Complete the lifestyle questionnaire.
- Select a retuning student meal plan.
- Optional: Students can also form a Selection Time Pair (STP) during this step.
* The $200 initial housing payment is completely refundable until May 1, 2027, if you decide you no longer want to attend BGSU.
Important reminder
The day you make your housing payment does NOT determine your Room Selection Time. Room Selection Times are 100% randomized.
Room Selection takes place March 16-19 and is managed through your BGSU Housing Portal. Below are the residence halls that are available for returning students to select a room into.
March 12
Room selection times emailed
Room selection times will be sent after 3 p.m. EST. Students who have paid their $200 initial housing payment by March 11, will receive a room selection time sent to your BGSU email account after 3 p.m. EST. Selection times are randomized by a computer and are not based on completed credit hours or initial housing payment date.
You can also find your room selection time on the left hand side of your BGSU Housing Portal homepage.
Important reminder
Students in a chapter-affiliated Greek townhouse or who have already selected a room during learning community selection will not receive a room selection time.
March 16-19
Returning student room selection
Returning student room selection takes place 9 a.m. to 4 pm. each day. The room selection process will open in your BGSU Housing Portal at your designated selection date and time. Room selection is on a first come, first served basis.
Steps during room selection
- Log in to your BGSU Housing Portal during your room selection time.
- You will select the "Select your room" button on the left-hand side of your homepage.
- Filter on the available buildings and select your room.
Room selection will remain open until 9 a.m. on March 19. Students wanting to make changes or select a different room after selection will need to submit a room change request located in your BSGU Housing Portal under "Manage My Housing" which opens on March 23.
Important reminder
In order to make sure space is available for everyone, the Office of Student Housing may need to move student's room assignments to a different room to accommodate for space. It will be the same type of room in the same building but the room number or the floor may be adjusted. This is in accordance to the Housing Agreement signed by all residential students.
