AY 26-27 Admissions for BSFS

For incoming freshmen applying for the 2026-2027 academic year please use the information below to help you navigate through the admissions process. The process below is for non-transfer students.

Step 1

If your high school cumulative GPA is equal to or above a 3.75, please see Step 2.

If your cumulative high school GPA is lower than a 3.75 please apply to the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science major. Scroll to the specialization you would like: Forensic DNA Analysis, Forensic Drug Analysis, or Forensic Examinations.

Because your GPA is below a 3.75 you will not meet the requirements for direct admission to the forensic science major. However it is extremely important that you apply to the program so we are aware of your desire to pursue forensic science and you can be evaluated for pre-forensic science.

The next step will be to determine if you are "chemistry ready." This step will determine if you are going to be placed in pre-forensic science program OR if you will be placed as a deciding student. Please refer to Step 2.

Students who applied with a GPA between 3.25- 3.749 but end up with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above after their high school graduation can ask to be reevaluated before the start of fall classes. Please email cguinsl@bgsu.edu

If your cumulative high school GPA is lower than a 3.25 please apply to the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science major. Scroll to the specialization you would like: Forensic DNA Analysis, Forensic Drug Analysis, or Forensic Examinations.

Because your GPA is below a 3.25 you will not meet the requirements for either pre-forensic science or full admission into the major. However it is extremely important that you apply to the program so we are aware of your desire to pursue forensic science as a major.

Your GPA has determined that you will be changed to a deciding student to explore other majors. Students who are placed as a deciding student can still choose to pursue forensic science. Please see the current requirements for evlauation below.

Current BGSU students and transfer students may be eligible for the program if they have:

  • Obtained a cumulative college GPA of a 3.0 or better, and
  • Earned a "S" in FSCI 1910 and
  • Earned a “C” or better in CHEM 1230 (including CHEM 1240 lab) or CHEM 1350 and
  • Earned a "C" or better in CHEM 1270 (including CHEM 1280 lab) or CHEM 1370 (including CHEM 1380 lab) and
  • Earned a “C” or better in the Organic Chemistry sequence: CHEM 3410 and CHEM 3440 (including CHEM 3460 lab) and
  • Earned a "C" or better in CHEM 2010

Students who meet these criteria should contact the forensic science program regarding admission.

Please note that students who still would like to pursue admittance into the forensic science major can still follow the BSFS checksheet as they move through taking the coursework above. Students will also:

  • Need to tell their academic advisor of their desire to major in forensic science.
  • Do NOT change to a chemistry major with their forensic specialization if you want to work towards the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science major.
  • Do NOT change to a criminal justice major with the forensic investigations specialization if you want to work towards the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science major.

Students who applied with a GPA below 3.25 but end up with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above after their high school graduation can ask to be reevaluated so long as it is before the start of fall classes. Please email cguinsl@bgsu.edu

Step 2

Complete Further Steps for Admit/Deny Decision.

Students with a 3.75 or above high school GPA will receive either an admit into the forensic science major OR pre-forensic science program.

Students with a 3.25 to 3.749 high school GPA will recieve either a decision of pre-forensic science program OR be changed to a deciding student.

Students that have submitted ACT/SAT scores can be evaluated immediately for an admit decision. If you went test optional, you can submit your scores officially to BGSU and be reviewed for an admit decision. Please submit scores as soon as possible. Refer to the Admissions Website for BGSU codes to use to officially submit scores.

Official college transcripts can be submitted to BGSU, and once it is determined if transfer credits will be awarded, your application can be reviewed for an admit decision.

If you do NOT have or submit ACT/SAT, CCP, or AP scores, you need to take the BGSU’s math placement test.
