Learning Communities

The College of Education and Human Development is proud to offer two options for students interested in a learning community. Learning communities are great options for students who are ready to get involved on campus and grow as a student. Students in the College of EDHD can choose between joining the EDHD Theme Community, a residential community in MacDonald Hall, and Educators in Context & Community (ECCO).

Educators in Context & Community (ECCO) is a comprehensive career-based professional development learning community for education majors and others who work with children. We focus on acclimating educators to the diverse cultures and communities—urban, rural, and suburban—which their students bring with them into the classroom. We focus on preparing our members both socially and emotionally for the rigors of teaching. We focus on cultural competence—being aware of and able to work in diverse settings with diverse students. We focus on educators knowing themselves, their students, the community, and their profession. ECCO is open to all education majors and class standings.

The EDHD Theme Community is designed to provide you with opportunities to connect to your peers, your faculty and the staff within the College of Education and Human Development. Living together in McDonald Hall will allow you to become part of a close-knit community and support one another throughout your time here at Bowling Green State University. Throughout the course of the year, the theme community will host events that allow you to get to know your academic advisor, provide you with a chance to learn about the student organizations that relate to your major, allow you to have discussions about civic engagement and civil discourse, and give you an opportunity to just have fun with your peers.

Students interested in both the ECCO and the EDHD theme community are welcome to join both.
