Ashley Beatty (b. 1983) is an environmental photographer, installation artist, and educator serving as Associate Professor and Area Head of Photography at Bowling Green State University.⁠ She holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.⁠

⁠Her transdisciplinary, research-driven practice explores ecofeminism, environmental ethics, and human–arboreal communication networks, supported by the Larson Award and developed through collaborations with Smithsonian biologists.⁠

⁠⁠Beatty’s work has been exhibited internationally and nationally, including presentations at the Louvre (Paris), the Foundry Art Centre (Saint Charles, MO), and galleries across Detroit and North Carolina, with upcoming collaborative exhibitions in dialogue with Edward Burtynsky.⁠ She has completed residencies at OxBow, Plyspace, and the Peanut Factory, and her international teaching engagements include coursework in Shanghai and lectures in Beijing.⁠

⁠⁠Prior to BGSU, she taught at the University of Saint Francis and Purdue Fort Wayne, and served as gallerist and director at Bread and Circus Art Gallery & Artist Residency Program.⁠

⁠⁠As an educator, Beatty champions a mentorship-centered pedagogy rooted in student autonomy, structured rotational critique, and professional application, helping emerging image-makers bridge technical rigor, critical theory, and community-engaged exhibition practice.⁠
