Amy Spohn, accounting analyst, Planning, Construction and Campus Operations, is the winner of the March 2026 Spirit of BG Award! Amy was nominated by Claire Semer who wrote the following:
"Amy’s commitment to excellence is visible in her meticulous attention to detail. Whether she is reviewing annual budgets and forecasting vendor costs or drafting documents for the Controlling Board to secure project funding, her work is flawless. Closing 50+ construction projects is not just a clerical task; it is a demonstration of her tireless pursuit of operational perfection.
Amy does not settle for the status quo. She actively improves internal accounting processes, working with staff members to streamline guidelines and apply industry best practices. Her proactive leadership during system enhancements and functionality changes ensures that BGSU remains at the forefront of administrative efficiency.
Amy is a dedicated mentor. She oversees the input of project information by staff, using these moments as opportunities for growth. By providing leadership with expert advice on budgeting, personnel costs, and accounting, she empowers the entire PCCO area to make more informed, sophisticated decisions.
In her role Amy handles sensitive personnel costs and budgeting matters with the utmost integrity. She treats every staff member she interacts with respect, fostering an inclusive environment where students and professionals alike are encouraged to achieve accuracy and take pride in their contributions to the university’s mission.
Amy Spohn is more than a financial manager; she is a leader who embodies the spirit of BGSU. Her ability to navigate the complexities of state funding, internal budgets, and massive construction projects—all while upholding our core values—makes her an invaluable asset.
