BGSU Men’s Soccer to play Western Michigan in MAC semifinal

The Bowling Green State University men’s soccer team takes on Western Michigan University in the Mid-American Conference semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Friday (November 9) at Disk Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia.
 
BGSU (6-6-4), which earned a first-round bye, enters the match as the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Western Michigan (10-5-3), the third seed, defeated Northern Illinois 3-1 on Tuesday (November 6) in a MAC Tournament quarterfinal round.
 
The Falcons qualified for the MAC Tournament in each of the first 15 years in which it was held, starting in 1994 and also advanced to the tourney in 2010, ’12 and ’14. BGSU won three straight MAC title from 1995-97. Historically, the Falcons are 6-5-0 in the quarterfinals 3-6-0 in the championship round. Friday’s match will mark BGSU's first-ever tourney game played in Morgantown.
 
Senior Tate Robertson leads the Falcons with 19 points, and has been involved in the scoring of 15 of BGSU's 22 goals this fall. Robertson has four goals, including two game-winning goals, and 11 assists. He leads the Falcons in assists and points, and is tied for the team lead in game-winning goals and second in goals. Fellow senior Ebenezer Ackon has 11 points on the year, including a team-leading five goals.
 
BGSU leads Western Michigan 28-17-5 in the all-time series, and the teams played to a 1-1 draw in this year's regular-season meeting at Cochrane Stadium on October 20. The winner of the match will advance to the MAC Tournament championship at 1 p.m. Sunday to face either top-seeded West Virginia or fourth-seeded Akron.
