Marguerite was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and is the 5th of 6 children. Even though her role at the CMA is clerical in nature, Marguerite is actually a musician who has been singing her entire life. Music is like a second language to her and her siblings. It’s a pretty cool experience to sing a piece from Handel’s Messiah at Christmas in 4 part harmony or to randomly sing in a restaurant to literally “sing for supper” at their parents’ request (even now!). As a child, Marguerite was part of the Atlanta Young Singers (then called the Young Singers of Callanwolde), under the direction of Stephen J. Ortlip, otherwise known as Mr. O. For the first 2 weeks of December throughout middle school, she had the privilege of singing under the late great Robert Shaw alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, ASO Chorus and the Morehouse Glee Club while with AYS.
Marguerite is married to Andres (AJ) Martinez. AJ is originally from Puerto Rico and the two met while students at Loyola University New Orleans. They have 3 children – Juliana, Madeline & Alejandro, who are all current BGSU Falcons! Music continues to be part of the fabric of Marguerite’s family. In her free time, Marguerite enjoys crafting, hiking, playing board games, and playing disc golf with her husband. She is excited to be part of the CMA family and MUSP.
