Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) refers to a student athlete’s right to earn compensation through the use of their own personal brand. This includes the use of their name, image, signature, voice, social media presence and all other aspects of their identity.

NIL opportunities oftentimes include endorsements, sponsorships, appearances, camps, merchandise and other promotional activities.

Bowling Green State University supports all student-athletes in pursuing NIL opportunities while ensuring compliance with NCAA Regulations, University policies and other existing licensing agreements.

NIL and University licensing

All commercial uses of a student-athlete’s name, image or likeness must comply with applicable NCAA NIL regulations and University-specific NIL agreements. They must receive approval from the University Licensing Office.

Student-athlete endorsements may only occur through approved platforms or contracts and may not conflict with University licensing agreements.

The use of Bowling Green State University trademarks, logos, athletics marks, uniforms or other protected brand assets in connection with NIL activities requires prior approval by the University Licensing staff. Requests will be reviewed to ensure compliance within University policies and to avoid further conflicts with licensing agreements.

Student-athletes, businesses and third-party partners are encouraged to contact Hailey Krawczyk of University Licensing before creating product merchandise, marketing materials or other content that incorporates University branding in connection with NIL activities.
