Tips for Commuters

Permits are available on an Annual, Semester, and monthly basis for students. Annual permits are the most cost-effective permit option.
Students can see which permits are available at bgsu.aimsparking.com. All permit requests are processed in "real time" and are active immediately. Please note: credit cards are accepted online and a convenience fee will be assessed. Payments may be made in the office using credit card, cash or check.

Your state-issued license plate on your vehicle serves as your permit. Per policy, vehicles must be parked so that the state-issued license plate is unobstructed, clearly visible, and readable by license plate recognition from the drive aisles in all parking lots. Backing in or pulling through parking spaces is not permitted without a visible front license plate. See Parking Rules and Regulations for more details.

Commuter Student Permits

Permits are available to Commuter students via credit card, cash, or check.  Annual permits are issued typically on an August to August basis. Commuter permits are valid to park in any parking lot in RED on the campus map. Monday through Friday after 5:00 PM students with a valid commuter parking permit may park in most Faculty/Staff parking lots until 7:00 AM the next morning. Between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday students vehicles must park in their assigned parking lots. You may register two vehicles to your parking permit at a time and those vehicles may not be active on any other parking permit. Additionally only 1 vehicle can be parked on campus at a time.  Pay to Park areas are not included in your parking permit. You can park in these areas if time is purchased via the Paybyphone or Aims Mobile Pay app.

  • Annual Permit -  This permit is valid from August to August each year and has an expiration date. Permit must be purchased each year.
  • Semester Permit - Semester permits are offered for Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions.  Permits expire at the end of a semester and require purchasing another permit if parking is still needed into another semester.
  • Monthly Permit - Montly permits are available for those who only need a short term parking permit.  Monthly permits are valid from purchase date plus 30 days.
  • Weekly Permit - Weekly permits are valid for 7 days from the date of purchase.  While a lower cost, the Monthly Permit provides longer term parking for a better cost.

Hourly Parking Options

BGSU Parking Services offers a variety of options for purchasing parking on an hourly basis. These options provide flexible parking options that could be closer to your destination. Payments may be made through the Paybyphone app, Aims Mobile Pay app, or pay kiosks. Permits or payments are required Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and Saturday 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM in Lot 7 at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

  • Paybyphone - Available via the Paybyphone app. Android download or Apple download.  Cost is $1.00 per hour plus fees. Refer to campus map for parking lots where hourly/daily payment is available.
  • Aims Mobile Pay (AMP)- Available via the AMP app. Android Download or Apple Download. Cost is $1.00 per hour plus fees.  Refer to campus map for parking lots were hourly/daily payment is available.
  • Kiosks - The pay kiosks are located in lot 7, lot 11, lot X, and Lot N.   The cost is $1.00 per hour.  Cash or credit is accepted.

Pay to Park areas are not included in your parking permit. You can park in these areas if time is purchased via the Paybyphone or Aims Mobile Pay app.

Disability Parking

In order to park using a disability placard in any campus lot, a parking permit is required along with your disability placard. To maintain accessible, appropriate and adequate parking for those with a state-issued disability placard or disability plate, registration is required with Parking Services. This can be done in the office or online.

To register your permit, we need copies of the following:

  • The Certificate of Registration. This can be one of two things: If you have a disability placard that hangs from your rearview mirror, this is the registration that comes with the placard. If you have a disability license plate, it would be the vehicle’s registration.
  • A color copy of your placard.
  • A color copy of your State Issued ID.

Enhance your on-campus experience! BGSU Parking Services is here to help you navigate getting to your destination with ease. Check out these helpful tips and reminders to make finding a parking spot as smooth as possible!

Parking Tips

  • Know your lots: Some lots may fill up faster than others, so having alternatives in mind can save you time.
    • Did you know that students park on campus more on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays than any other day of the week?
  • Arrive early: If possible, try to arrive on campus a little earlier. Parking tends to be more available in the mornings before classes start.
    • Daily peak times are typically between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Consider alternative options: Different lots see a higher volume of cars depending on the day of the week. Some lots have regular vacancies at any day or time!
    • Check out Lots 5, 10 or 18 next time you need a spot.
  • Park and Ride: Take advantage of the BGSU Shuttle Service. Park your car and then catch a ride to class.

While the space you desire to park in may not be available, an adequate number of spaces are available to accommodate the number of permits issued.

Parking Reminders

  • Know the rules: Lots are strictly enforced from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
    • Some areas are enforced until 7:30 p.m. or 24/7.
  • Temporary Parking: Parking without a permit or payment is available in Lot 13 and Lot 20.
    • No overnight parking is permitted in these lots.
  • Pay to Park: Use the PayByPhone app or Aims Mobile Pay (Apple or Google) app to pay online or pay $1 per hour with cash, coins or credit card in lots with kiosks.
