Thomas (‘Tom’) Mowen completed his PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Delaware. Trained in criminology and quantitative methods, his research broadly focuses on the effects of punishment and policing on youth and families. Past projects have examined the link between school punishment, policing, and security on youth and family outcomes as well as how family dynamics shape – and are shaped by – incarceration. His current research focuses on the implications of punishment within the life-course by examining how experiences such as arrest and incarceration affect other outcomes such as criminal offending, delinquency, and family relationships.
