Scott Rogers grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor of music education degree, and Ashland University with a master’s degree in Education with course work in music performance from the University of Michigan, and coursework in music education from Vandercook College in Chicago.  He has 40+ years as an instrumental artist and 31 years as a successful music educator in Ohio.  As a trombonist and sometimes vocalist Scott was able to work his craft with the Stan Sterner Big Band, Johnny Knorr Orchestra, The Dayton Jazz Orchestra, The Don Glasser Orchestra N.Y., Bob Jay, and Jack Runyon Big Bands.  Scott continued to grow as a musician by recording “Jingles” for local and regional businesses including TV13.  Rogers joined the Toledo Jazz Orchestra while in college and became a solo, and lead trombonist with the group a few short years later and still serves in that position today.  Scott has been a musician with the Murphy’s Place Jazz Orchestra, and Los Gringo’s Salsa Band for a few years as well as the Lima Symphony Orchestra since the 1980’s and has been featured as a soloist and featured small group artist.

Scott has performed with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and the Toledo Zoo Band, and related chamber groups.  Rogers once conducted an antiphonal brass piece with the Canadian Brass and LSO Brass musicians for a concert series in Lima, Ohio.  Mr Rogers has performed commercially for many artists and venues including the Kentucky Derby Gala, The Playhouse Square, and the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, The Ohio State Fair, The Hullabaloo and with The O’Jays, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Red Skelton, Gabe Kaplan, Phyllis Diller, Robert Goulet, Joe Williams, and musicals “Hairspray”, “Music Man”, and “Company”.  A highlight was soloing on “Night In Tunisia” with jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie standing shoulder to shoulder during his 70th birthday bash.  Rogers continues to perform with small groups such as “Jazz Lite” a small jazz trio, the “Tuba-Fours” a tuba-euphonium quartet, and the “Brass Works Brass Quintet” from Defiance, Ohio.  Scott has recorded with the Toledo Jazz Orchestra, the Lima Symphony Orchestra, Ken-R Studios, SlideWerke (Detroit), Los Gringos Salsa Band, and the Murphy’s Place Jazz Orchestra. Scott has studied with David Glasmire (BGSU), Frank Chrisafulli (Chicago Symphony), Jeff Macomber (Minnesota), Harry Berv (Curtis-Julliard), Dennis Smith (University Of Michigan), Gene Parker (Toledo). 

Scott is currently a retired music educator, and works as an Adjunct Music Education Supervisor and University Mentor for Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts and continues to teach perform and in many different types of local musical situations and venues. Scott is a co-conductor of the Defiance College-Community Band and is also the artistic director of Big Band Sound. He is happily married to Deborah along with their growing family with age ranges from 10-23.
