
Gretchen Zunic serves as the Head Orchestra Director at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus. She is in her twenty-ninth year of teaching at Upper Arlington and previously taught strings in the Hilliard City Schools and the Findlay City Schools. In addition to working with six high school orchestras, she also assists with sixth through eighth grades at both middle schools. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Bowling Green State University and her Master of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University where she received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Mrs. Zunic was named Ohio Teacher of the Year by the Ohio String Teachers Association in 2019 and currently serves as President of the Ohio String Teachers Association, and Co-Chair of the Central Ohio String Festival.
The Festival offers the opportunity to work with BGSU faculty in creative sessions, participate in a Festival Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Gretchen Wyder Zunic, Upper Arlington High School, experience a college campus in a friendly atmosphere, interact with BGSU music majors and meet other interested peers from around the state.
The pieces we will play are: A Ray of Joy, Adrian Gordon, Inverno, Scenes from Vivaldi’s Winter, arr. Todd Parrish, and Where Falcons Fly, Adrian B. Sims.

WHEN: Event begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends with an hour-long concert at 5 p.m.
COST: $40. Covers dinner at BGSU cafeteria, Special t-shirt, snacks and more.

8:30 Registration, Receive Name tags.
9:00 On stage Kobacker Hall, Dean, Dr. William Mathis’s Welcome and Introduction of Ms. Gretchen Wyder Zunic. Followed by Announcements and Introductions of Faculty by Emily Freeman Brown.
9:05-10:30 Orchestra rehearsal. Gretchen Wyder Zunic, conductor.
10:30-11:20 Sectionals: Violin I on Kobacker stage, Violin II in 2105 (Women’s Dressing Room), Violas in 2107 (Men’s Dressing Room), Cellos in 1012, Basses in Basement Computer Lab.
At 11:20 Everyone gathers in Kobacker Hall.
11:30-12:45 Lunch
12:45 Campus Tour
1:30-1:55 Cellos/Basses in 1040 with Dr. Elaine Colprit for String Techniques and Violins/Violas in 1012 with Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, Cueing and Ensemble Playing
1:55-2:25 Switch rooms.
2:30-3:20 Orchestra Rehearsal on stage.
3:20 Snack in Kobacker Lobby, bathroom break and change clothes to concert dress.
4:00 Recital, Bryan Recital Hall. Graduate String Quartet.
4:30 Warm-up & tuning on stage. Kobacker opens to the public.
5:00 p.m. Concert in Kobacker Hall. No tickets required.
