Drop-In Sessions

The Slater Family Ice Arena offers Drop-In Sessions for figure skaters and hockey players with, at minimum, an introductory level of skill previously achieved. There is no pre-registration for Drop-In Sessions; however, each person skating is required to sign in and pay at the Newlove Pro Shop prior to getting on the ice for each session skated.

These sessions are designed for practice for anyone from the advanced beginning levels through the advanced competitive levels. Many skaters receive private lessons during these sessions, however lessons are not required in order to skate the sessions.  It is recommended that skaters be working on at least Basic 4 to skate on a session unsupervised by a coach in a private lesson.  The size limit for all sessions is 24 skaters.

All are offered on a walk-on (first come, first served) basis. To skate, simply sign in and pay at the Newlove Pro Shop immediately prior to the start of a given session.

  • Cost
    50 minute sessions:  $10       
    80 minute sessions:  $15
    Ice Card Figure Skating Pass: $100 (includes 11 Figure Skating sessions that can be used for 50-minute or 80-minute sessions)
  • Figure Skating: A general session on which freestyle, dance or moves in the field are permitted.
  • Free Skate: Jumps, spins and stroking.
  • Dance: Specific steps and timing to music.
  • Moves in the Field: Patterned stroking, edges and turns.
Family Stick and Puck:

For parents and their children 12 years and under. This recreational, non-competitive, fun hockey session is ideal for parents and youth who want to enjoy the sport of hockey. All skaters must sign the log book and pay at the Pro Shop prior to each session. The level of play on the ice must be safe for all abilities of skaters including beginners and the puck must stay on the ice at all times. Participants provide sticks, the Slater Family Ice Arena provides pucks. Children must be supervised by an on-ice parent/adult at all times, and wear full hockey equipment. Parent/adult must wear helmet with full facemask, full hockey equipment is recommended. Older siblings under the age of 18 cannot act as a substitute for parental supervision.
Cost: $5 per person

Stick and Puck:

For skaters and goalies 13 years and older. Ages 12 - 5 must be accompanied and directly supervised by a professional coach in an individual private lesson or a parent. Ages 4 and under are not permitted on the session.  All skaters must sign the log book and pay at the Pro Shop prior to each session.
This recreational, non-competitive, fun hockey session is ideal for individuals who would like to work on their skills in a non-game setting. This session is not for team practice. The level of play on the ice must be safe for all abilities of participants, including beginners. The puck must stay on the ice at all times. Participants provide sticks; the Slater Family Ice Arena provides pucks. Helmet with full face mask is required at all times for all skaters.  Additional protective equipment is recommended. Full protective equipment, including a helmet with full face mask, is required for all youth ages 12 and under.
Cost: $5 per person

Senior Shinny Hockey:

Senior Shinny sessions are drop-in hockey times for pick-up, recreational games for ages 14 and older or skaters of freshman status in High School. All skaters must sign the log book and pay at the Pro Shop prior to each session. The length, time and size of sessions vary throughout the season.  No slapshots or checking allowed.  Full protective equipment, including helmet with full facemask, is required. The Ice Arena and its staff abide by and support the USA Hockey Zero Tolerance policy for aggression and violence.  Inappropriate and destructive behavior of spectators, players, officials, and team officials are not tolerated.  Violators are asked to leave the premises.  
Cost:
$10 per player, goalies play free (up to 4 per session)

Private Hockey Lessons:

Skaters of all ages and skill levels are allowed on this session and MUST have a scheduled private or semi-private lesson. Skaters cannot skate the session without a scheduled lesson. All skaters must either sign the log book and pay at the Pro Shop or register online prior to each session. Helmet with full face mask is required at all times for all skaters and coaches.  Additional protective equipment is recommended. Full protective equipment, including a helmet with full face mask, is required for all youth ages 12 and under. Coaches must submit appropriate coaching paperwork to Ice Arena Full time staff and be approved before lessons can be scheduled and conducted. For the purpose of the Private Hockey Lesson session; Semi-Private lessons are no more than two skaters in a lesson at a time with one coach.  The level of skating must be safe for all abilities of skaters, including beginners. The puck must stay on the ice at all times.  No slap-shots or checking. If needed, pucks provided by the Ice Arena should be returned to the Pro Shop at the conclusion of each session.
Cost: $5 per skater (30-minute session), $10 per skater (50-minute session).
