Common Expectations for BGSU Course Syllabi

The course syllabus plays a key role in communicating to the student a faculty member's expectation of the student as well as what the student can expect of their faculty. There are many different ways to organize and present course syllabi depending on the faculty, discipline, course level, etc.

There are several common expectations and requirements for course syllabi at BGSU. Some aspects of the syllabus are required by Ohio law, and some are minimum expectations outlined in the BGSU Faculty Association (FA)Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA):

Ohio Department of Education Requirements

Ohio law (Advance Ohio Higher Education Act, Section 3345.029) requires specific information to be included in all undergraduate syllabi. This information will be displayed on BGSU's website via Concourse Syllabus.
