Expectations for BGSU Course Syllabi

There are several common expectations and requirements for course syllabi at BGSU. Some aspects of the syllabus are required by Ohio law, and some are minimum expectations outlined in the BGSU Faculty Association (FA)Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Ohio Department of Education Requirements

Ohio law (Advance Ohio Higher Education Act, Section 3345.029) requires specific information to be included in all undergraduate syllabi. BGSU has adopted the Concourse Syllabus platform, which integrates with Canvas, to ensure compliance.

All instructors of record, including graduate assistants and adjuncts, who teach lectures, labs, independent studies, directed studies, co-ops, and internships must use Concourse Syllabus in Canvas to enter required information. This information will be displayed on BGSU's website via Concourse Syllabus.

The deadline to enter your required information into Concourse Syllabus is Tuesday, August 18, 2026

See the video tutorial and table below for help entering required information into Concourse Syllabus. Upcoming Getting Started with Concourse Syllabus sessions can be found on the Session Catalog page.
