Ohio Organics Council Event: Sips & Soils
BGSU Campus Sustainability is partnering with Hirzel Farms, the City of Bowling Green, and Wood County Solid Waste Management District to host the first-ever Sips and Soils tour. Starting in Pemberville at Hirzel Farms, the tour will head towards BGSU at 2pm for a tour of campus sustainability features, and conclude at Juniper Brewing Company in downtown Bowling Green at 4:30pm. This event is FREE and open to anyone to register. Learn more on the webpage linked above, and register today!
Whether you're a municipal leader, environmental professional, student, business owner, or simply passionate about sustainability, Sips & Soils offers an engaging opportunity to see real-world organics recycling in action.
As a result of a series of Student Green Initiatives Fund proposals and a partnership with BGSU Dining Services, BGSU composts a multiplicity of food waste at our main dining facilities: The Oaks, Carillon Place, Kreischer Sundial & the Falcon's Nest.
Food waste is picked up by GoZERO Services every other week and is transported to Andre Farms, a class two certified composting facility in Wauseon, Ohio. This process diverts an average of 1,100 lbs of waste from the landfill each week.
