Loraine Ruetz is an interdisciplinary artist that is interested in working with materials and methods that are fluid, such as glass, fiber, video, and installation. Her work is intended as a critique of structures we adhere to and perform within. This is achieved through an interrogation of labor, mastery, identity, and the scripts that all of these follow. Writing and curation also factor into her artistic practice.
Loraine has earned degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Art and Bowling Green State University in Glass, Sculpture, and Three-dimensional Studies. She has exhibited work nationally and internationally in countries such as South Korea, Ireland, and Italy. She has been a featured artist at the Toledo Museum of Art's Glass Pavilion, granted a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, and has written for Critical Practices Inc’s (CPI) publication LEF(t).
