In Brief: October 19
BGSU German Club hosts Oktoberfest polka event Oct. 25
Join the German Club and the Department of World Languages and Cultures for an Oktoberfest polka evening featuring dancing and German food. The event takes place from 6-10 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and a traditional German buffet featuring bratwurst and German potato salad will be served from 6-8 p.m. The $15 admission fee (for nonstudents) in advance ($20 at the door) also covers the buffet. Students are admitted free, but will be charged $10 for the buffet. A cash bar serving soft drinks, wine and beer will also be available.
This event will be an opportunity to learn about — and dance to — German-American polkas and popular music played by the Jay Fox Bavarian Band. Fox, who has over 40 years of experience and a classical accordionist background, was the AAA National Accordion Champion for four consecutive years. His great-grandparents were born in Leipzig, Germany, and he specializes in German vocals and music but plays a variety of styles in addition to polka.
This year’s Oktoberfest includes a raffle featuring gift cards and other prizes from area businesses. Tickets for the raffle will be available at the event. The Falcon Food Restaurant is an event sponsor.
