Room Change Request - Before Move-in

The room selection process doesn't have to end unless you want it to. If you ended up in a residence hall you aren't satisfied with, or you and your friend had to choose a room away from each other, you can submit a Room Change Request or add yourself to a Hall Waitlist.

Both Room Change Requests and Hall Waitlists are granted on a first-come, first-served basis and our office process requests throughout the summer. For room change requests, you will be notified through your BGSU email if your request is approved. For the waitlist, you will receive a phone call to the number provided in the waitlist. On average, we are able to fulfill 65% - 70% of the requests we receive but this is solely determined by factors outside of our control, requests can only be granted if space becomes available.

Returning Student Room Change Timeline

New & Transfer Student Room Change Timeline

The Hall Waitlist and Room Change Request process will open at 9 a.m. on May 22. and close at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 2. Our office will start granting requests on a rolling basis.

Hall Waitlist

There are only two residence halls that have a Waitlist:

  • Centennial Hall | New and transfer students can be placed on the Centennial Hall Waitlist
  • Falcon Heights | Returning students can be placed on the Falcon Heights waitlist

The Hall Waitlist can be found in your Housing Portal under "Manage My Housing" at the top of the homepage, you will only be able to place yourself on a Waitlist if you currently have a room assignment in another building.

Please Note: If you have a room assignment in Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights but want to move to a different room within those halls, then you will need to submit a Room Change Request and not place yourself on the Hall Waitlist.

  • You can only request to be on a Waitlist for Centennial Hall (new & transfer students) or Falcon Hieghts (returning students).
  • You can only fill out a Waitlist as an INDIVIDUAL. You will be separated from your roommate or RSG if your request is approved.
  • Placing yourself on a waitlist DOES NOT guarantee you a spot. When a spot opens up our office will use the waitlists to fill it.
  • Priority is given on a first come, first served basis – not by payment date or completed credit hours.

After you place yourself on a Hall Waitlist, and you are next on the list when a spot opens up, a call will be made to the phone number you provided. You will be given 24 hours to accept the offer. If there is no answer, a voicemail will be left. If you do not return the call within 24 hours -or- if you do not want to accept the offer, your name will be removed from the waitlist. The next person on the list would get the offer for the spot.

Helpful tip: Make sure your voicemail is set up and not full so you don't miss this important call.

You can only fill out the waitlist as an INDIVIDUAL. It is very rare two spots in the same room will open at the same time. Because of this, when you get the call to move into the waitlist building, the space will only be for you.

You have 24-hours to accept or deny the reassignment when we call you. You will not be able to wait to see if your roommate gets offered a space before you make a decision.

Yes. You can identify what type of room in the hall you want to be on the waitlist for. If you want to be considered for a single and double in the same hall, you will have the ability to preference one over the other.

If we reached out to you about an opening and you do not respond within the 24-hour window, the next person on the list will receive the offer and your name will be removed from the waitlist. If you would like to still be considered for an opening in a waitlist hall, please contact our office so you can be removed and then you can re-add yourself.

Room Change Requests

If you already have a room assignment for next fall semester a Room Change Request can be used to make four different request types:

  • You cannot fill this request out with your roommate.
  • Use this form if you would like to move to a specific room in the same building or would like a different room in the building you are assigned to for the fall semester.
  • This request option can be used for ALL residence halls, as long as you are already assigned to the building.
  • If you know the room number, you can include it on the request.

Please note: If you have a specific person you would like to live with, you should choose the roommate request option on this form instead.

  • This option should be used by TWO students.
  • Use this request if you and another student would like to swap rooms.
  • This request option can be used for ALL residence halls.
  • Both students who want to make the swap must fill out the request form before the request can be processed. (You will need their BGSU ID#)
  • You cannot fill this request out with your roommate.
  • Use this form if you would like to be reassigned to Conklin Hall, Founders, Hall, McDonald Hall, Kreischer Hall, Non-Affiliated Greek Townhouse, or Offenhauer Towers.
  • A building change request cannot be used for Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights—these are the waitlist halls and you must use the waitlist form to request to be moved to one of these halls.

Please note: If you have a specific person you would like to live with, you should choose the roommate request option on this form instead.

  • This option should be used by TWO students.
  • Use this form if you and another student would like to live together -or- move together into a different building.
  • You will be able to preference up to 3 non-waitlist buildings. (Conklin Hall*, Founders Hall, McDonald, Kreischer, Non-Affiliated Greek Townhouse, or Offenhauer Towers)
  • BOTH students must fill out the request form before the request can be processed. (You will need their BGSU ID#)

*Conklin Hall is only for new/transfer students.

The Room Change Request process can be found in your Housing Portal under "Manage My Housing" at the top of the homepage. Students who want to request to have their room assignment changed to Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights need to place themselves on the Hall Waitlist.

  • If you want to make any of these requests for Centennial Hall or Falcon Heights — you first must have a room assignment in one of these buildings and the individual(s) you want to make the change with, must also have an assignment (if applicable.)
  • Filling out the request form DOES NOT guarantee you a spot. When a spot opens up our office will use the Request list to fill it.
  • Priority is given on a first come, first served basis – not by payment date or completed credit hours.
  • Verify your financial aid will cover any additional charges for room changes into buildings that cost more.

Our office will process requests throughout the summer and you will be notified through your BGSU email if your request is approved. Please note: For room swaps, each student who is moving needs to fill out a room change request form. Requests will be denied if a request is not received by both students.
