Outside Scholarships

Award letters without checks

Upload your award letter(s) using the document upload tool. Once reviewed, our office will add an anticipated amount to your Award Summary in your MyBGSU Student Center. You will not need to accept these awards. We will finalize acceptance once the scholarship check arrives. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

Required award letter format
To ensure your award is added correctly to your account, letters must include:

• Official letterhead from the awarding agency
• Date or academic year/term
• Student’s first and last name (printed, not handwritten)
• Scholarship amount (printed, not handwritten)
• Student’s BGSU ID number (may be handwritten)

If any required information is missing, the anticipated award will not be added to a student account.

Checks mailed to the student

If a scholarship provider issues a paper check directly to you, you have two options:

• Mail the check to Office of the Bursar, 1001 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, OH 43403
• Drop the check in the Bursar Office drop box located outside of 227 Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

Be sure to endorse the back of the check before sending it to BGSU if it was made out to you.

Once the payment is received and processed by the Office of the Bursar, the scholarship will be posted to your financial aid record within 2-3 business days. The entire process takes 1-2 weeks from the date you send the check. 

How to send awards to BGSU

To streamline processing and ensure funds are applied promptly to the student’s account, submit payments online through the Scholarship Agency Payment Portal.

The portal allows you to:

• Enter scholarship award details
• Make a secure online payment

If you cannot submit payment electronically, checks may be mailed to:

Make checks payable to BGSU. Include the student’s full name and BGSU ID number on the check so that we can ensure the student’s account is properly credited.
